BOARD or TRADE, -A meetiug of the council of the Board was held iast Tues- day evening with a good attendance of members. Among the matters discussed was the long standing propos9d agree- ment with the G. T. R. Co, regarding the erection of a new station here. The new tugs being built on the har- bor island are both finished as far as outward planking, and sue has her rail nearly completed. The repair work also bids fair to be finished in due season, so we shall likely have a big lanaolhing time early in the spring. Trout hooking, not in the criminal, sense, but through the ice, occurred on Tuesday, when a fine trout weighing over 13 lbs. was offered for sale up town, At present the ice is not in the beat of coudition for fishing through it with nuts but for herring:° There are many fiudable spots where hooks may be set for the larger fish, and near shore we shall soon be able to catch perch and herring plentifully. The Bible was a dry book without the teaching of the Holy Spirit; giving power for active service to God, aucl a guide to the lee - Hever in things temporal and spiritual. Miss Kate Fisher was then called upon for the topic -"Who are eligible for the baptism of the Holy Ghost," referring to the 1st and 2nd chapters of Acts. The little company in the upper room at Jerusalem upon whom the holy Ghost descended were baptized believers, fol- lowers of the Lord Jesus Christ, convert- ed people, 111en and women whom the Lord taught while upon earth. They were with one accord in prayer and sup- plication; they tarried, obedient to the command, waiting to be endued with power for service. Christians sometimes lay plans for service, then ask God's blessing upon their Worts, instead of first asking God for spiritual guidatice; plans for service should follow the load- ings of the spirit. Mrs, Ritchie followed with a fine ad- dress upon the hindrances to the work of the holy Spirit, Mrs. Alex. Ross gave an interesting paper upon the training of children as temperance workers. She thought the best method for training children was to form juvenile temperance bands, gov- erned by self-denying women, who will consecrate themselves to this labor of love and patriotism. Such meetings should vary in so far that no two meet- ings be alike. Bright alid helpful; be- ing taught to sing temperance songs, filling their young minds with temper- ance sentiments, enlisting the heart sym- pathies, and co-operation of the parents, But to this work there are also draw- backs.
