Orville, the nine-year-old son of

Mr. John Little met With•what mi-
ght have been a fatal • accident on
Saturday. He was getting rid of
twitch grass by throwing it over the
bank of the Maitland at a point

ere it is about thirty feet high. He
had backed his waggon close to the
bank and after unloading in starting
up his -team the Whiffletrees broke
and , clown the bank Mr. Little and
the .wagon went. The later was smr
asheC and Mr. Little rendered uncon-
seions for a time. His daughter wit-
nessed the mishap and quickly summ-
oning aid Mr. Little was conveyed to.
his :house. He has • since almost re-
covered, • but it was a very narrow
escape from death or serious injuries.

were present, notably :Messrs,Doher-
ty, Fatten, Forrester, Shaw, Hod -
gens, Spalding and others. It was
generally conceded by those who sp-
oke that the Scott Act was a failure
and there was no reason . to suppose
that this could be anything else but
rather was it shown that the probab-
ility isit wotild be a good deal wor-
se .for Whereas the Scott Act was
confined to a county this is only Con-
fined to a Municipality. It Was fina-
lly decided, as you have heard in ,the
minutes, that -a meeting of the'whole
Board of Trade should be called and
their advice obtained. The council
did not feel that they had any right
to comniit the Board of Trade to any
lino of action on this most important
subject without their consent in the
first place being obtained."
The following -motion was then

up a petition to the town council re-
questing the council to rescind their
motion of last meeting respeenng

being adverse to the moral and busi-

present it at the next regular Meet-
ing of the said council, Considdrable
discussion then took place, which Was
participated in by the mover and see -
