fellow's lodge in that city, under the
anspiees of a Rebekah lodge. The re-

The entertabinient given M. the 134p-
tist chetah on IVIoaday evening by the
Young People's Society was a very
well attended Mid successful affair.
Pastor Dunlop presided in his usual
pleasant manner. He has a happy
way of making everyone feel at home.
The chief event on the program was
a debate on "Resplved that in • the
bend' interests of Canada the Chinese
should be exeluded." Shut them . out
entirely. argued Mr. J. B. 'Hoover and
Mies Merch, 'admit them contended
Postmaster Scott. and Mr. W. Dunlop.
The committee decided that the Meads
of the Celestials, for argurnent'e sake,
had the better of the • controversy by
one point. The program was enhanc-
ed by solos from Misses Jones and
Akam and Mr Sibley and a quartette by
Misses Jones and Spaulding and Mes-
srs Ziegler awl' Cook. Last but not
least was an address. by Rev. Priest
on the "manners aled customs of the
people of India." The entertainment
was a credit to the B. Y. P. U.
GUN CLUB TOURNAMENT.
The thirteenth .annual tournament of
the Clinton Gun Club will be held
on Thureda.y and, Friday of next week
and from present indications there
will be a large attendance Four ev-
eats at live birds are scheduled for
the lint day and ten events—all at
targets—for the second day. The first
live bird event is for a gmearantee
purse of $75and all surplus added,
entrance $7, high guns, two moneYs
for 'every five Mario. The chin guar -

AN ACCIDENT.
Ray Ball of The News -Record staff
got his right leg caught in one of
the presses on Friday last and had it
soinjured that the doctor had to put
in several stitches. As a. result Roy
will be off duty for a week or so.

cow in the stall when she threw up
her head and one at her hems struck
in the corner of the eye which
he has since had to have bandaged

hands, the purchaser being Mr. J. P.
Tisdall. Tile- transfer will not alter
the plans for building the new block
which Mr. Tisdall will push to com-
pletion as rapidly as possible,

Mr. Coats went up to God-
erich i today and took the oath of office
as registrar so is now in. receipt of a
net income of .ten dollars per day. As
the new registrar is not a high rol-
ler, but an unassuming, lunneelbviiig
man, there can be little doubt but
that the salary will enable hiin, to
keep the wolf from the door. .

Mr. 0. Crich, the efficient superin-
tendent ..of the eemetery, informed The
News-li.ecard yesterday that in •the
thirteen • months ending on Tuesday
there had been fifty one burials in
the Clinton cemetery, This is a latger
number: than hi the previous .thirteen
months and in • March there were
twice as many as in any other month
and since the liret of January. lett
twelve men, sixteen eirornen :and ten
children have been interred"

has been very ill in Clinton hospital
for some days, is now convalescing
rapidly. When lie recovers sufficiently
lie will leave for his old home in
Eastetn Ontario for a few weeks, rest.
In the meantime his practice is in
charge of Dr. Elliott, a SkiHful phy-
sician, who was for some time an
assistant to Dr, Gunn.

specimens are not to be had around
here and Gordon is having them
