A rretty We4ding:7A very pretty
wedding was celebrated at, the resi-
dence of Mr. J. Caldwell on Wednes-
day of last week at high noon when
kis daughter, Miss, Lizzie S., beeafile
the bride of Mi. Thos. J. Tamblyn of
Colterville, Manitoba. The bridal par.
ty entered the parlor to the strains of
the wedding inarch played by Miss
rarsons Of Harlotk. The ceremony
was performed by Rev. Mr. Hamilton
of Londesboro. the bride looked• very
pretty, Wearing white crepe de chene
trimmed with silk lace, applique and
orange blossoms. The ceremony took
place under a beautiful arch of pink
and green.
After congratulations had been re-
ceived by the newly .married Couple
the company adjourned to the dining
roan where. an elegant repast was
partaken of by a number of invited
guests. A beautiful array of •presents
testified to the esteeni in which the
young couple is held by their friends.
The bride's travelling COSI:POW ' was
of blue broadcloth trimmed with bine
satin.
Mr. and Mrs. Tamblyn left on the'
evening train to visit friends ' in
Guelph and Toronto. Their numerons
friends join .in wishing them niany
years of enjoyment. •

services as orga.nist of •the Methodist
church of I,ondesboro, Miss E. Carter
was presented with a 'handsome well-
filled purse. -The presentation , was
made by Ur, Wrii, Moon while Mr, M.
Braithwaite made a very suitable ed
dress in which he .noted the faithful
service she had rendered during •the
two, years she had filled the position'
and regretting that through the.
convenience of distance she had been
forced to resign and in conclusion
while tendering her the best wishes of
the congregation asked her to accept
that gift as a mark of esteem from
them as a whole..
In a short fitting reply Miss Carter
thanked them heartily for the kindness
and good wishes that had thus 'teen
extended to her.

Mr. Thos. Nott, who has recetaly
been laid up with a severe attack of

The ceremony was performed' at .half
past nine by the pastor, Rev. Albert
McKeon. The bride was attended • by
her sister, Miss Ettie, •and Mr, Peter
Sullivan was groomsman. After the
ceremony the bridal party drove' to
the home of the bride's -parents acenn-•
panied by a large niunber of the rela-
tives and friends of the bride .nd
groom. At five o'clock a reception
and dinner was given, followed by a '
dance. A splendid time as spent end
dancing was kept • up until morning.

the •early train for Buffalo and.NeW
York. The presents to the bride were
unusually numerous and handsome.
After their honeymoon the young
couple will take up their residence in
Seaforth.' The NeWs-Record joins in

Caldwell when his second daughter
Lizzie was united in the bonds of mat-
rimony to Mr. Thomas Tambly of,
Southern Manitoba. The knot was.
tied by Rev. J. A. Hamilton at high
• noon. None but the. near relatives of
the contracting parties were invited!'
The young couple left Londesboro st.t-
tion on the 3.45 train to spend their
honeymoon in Guelph, Toronto end
Winnipeg before settling down to the
realities of life. They have the hest
wishes of this coininunity for their
future prosperity and happineat. •

The Oddiellowa and their lady fri-
ends of Brucefield held an At Borne
in their hall on Pridaor evening, it
being the 25th anniversary of their
society in this place. The lodge room
Molted 'very handsome, having been,
recently deeoratetl and beautified for
the oecasion, making it one of the
finest lodge rooms in this district end
on this occasion the worthy brethern
fairly excelled themselves. The first
item on the.prograin. was a very fine
supper consisting of oysters, turkey
and all other delicacies of the season.
The supper waa gotten up by airs.
Hill and everything to suit the taste
of the most fastidious was on the
table. That part of the proceedings
being,over the program was continued,
thegenial Mr. T. Freser talking the
chair, he being the oldest chartered
'Member present. The musical part
was very ably sustained by Miss Rat-
teubury, Miss Woodly and Mr. reek,
who delighted all by their fine playing
anti singing. Bros. Boyce and Swan
sustained their usual reputation as
violin players. Miss Blake and air.
Armstrong of Varna gave some very
ynice recitations, the one entitled
"Little Will" by Miss Blake being
especially fine. Some witty and bril-
liant speeches by inemberS of the or-
der and our worthy pastor, Rev. Saw-
ers, brought the much enjoyed pro-
gram to a close, all joining in singing
Auld Lang Syne and He's a Jolly
Good Fellow before departing.
The Ideal club of the bachelor maid-
ens of this place is in a flourishing
condition. They hold their meetings
in the Foresters' neer hall. Parties' are
very plentiful and the young folks are
having a gay time. The Ideal club
have rented an organ from Colonel
Hore .of Clinton and the Oddfellows
have centect a piano from Mr. Baldwin
of Seaforth.
Miss Aggie Sewers is suffering from
a severe cold.
The Foresters held a meeting Friday
night when several new inetnbers were
added. Two gentlemen from a dis-
tance gave excellent addresses and
some fine songs.
Mr. and Mrs. Hector Reid, who
leave for the West in a few days,
were around saying good bye to their
many friends who are sorry to see

Oyster Supper.—The anneal oyster
supper of the ratepayers and friends
of S. S. No. 14, Hay, was held on
Monday at the home of Mr. Robert
McArthur. This 'event is always look-
ed forward to with as much -pleasure as
their 'annual • pic-nic in une. The
forepart' of the evening was spent in
listening to a splendid program con-
sisting of instrumentals on piano,
violin and guitar and singing, ' recita-
tions, readings andshort addresses.
The program over about Rio sat
down to devour the bivalves. After
supper all spent a few hours in social
chat. The large assembly returned
home at a respectable 'hour feeling
well satisfied with the evening's enter-
, tainment; not, however, before expres-
sing thanks to Mr, R. McArthur for
use of his very commodious house.
We' are sorry to learn of the illness
of Mr. E. Datar's baby. .
Quite a number are laid up •with a
very bad cold something like the old-
fashioned la grippe.
Mr. and Mrs. McArthur entertained
a large -number of their friends to • a
social hop last week. •

T. H. Brownlee_was in Goderich on

Mr. Charles .Aecrat, who has,been all

and .the funeral took place on Sunday

Presentation.—About forty members
and adherents of Cole's Methodist
church assembled in the paraonage in
Bayfield by surprise last Wednesday
evening . and presented their esteemed
pastor, Rev. Mr. irelland, with a

kets and 'all spent a pleasant evening.

Cousiderable interest is being taken
in the approaching sessions of the
Provincial Grand Lodge of the Orange
Asaociation of Ontario West, to lie
held .r. Wingliam. The Grand Black
Chapter will incet March loth and
the Provincial Grand Lodge cM Wed-
nesday, Thursday and Friday of the
same week. On Wednesday evening a.
public• meeting vvill be held in the
opera house to *which all are invited.
This meeting will be addressed by Dr.

Otto afternoon recently the home of
Widow Smith, 6tli line, was destroyed
by fire and little or nothing was sav-
ed outside the bedclothes on one bed.
Fire originated at stovepipe there be-
ing no chimney oil. the "Muse. There
was no insurance and the loss will
foot up to from 53oo to ;o0 or there-
abouts. The house was a log one and
was built probably 40 years and while
not of gthat value was quite cosy.
They had bought the Camera* r•trm
last year and moved a house from it
to this•farm but it wan not ready for
occupation yet. Had the fire ocairred
at night there might have been loss of
life to recount. Owing to the' !mister-
ous weather the fire soon did its work
in the destruction of the house, "..he
first intimation David: Smith had of
the loss as when he turned his team
in at the farm gate.
