The Sons of England held their an-
nual diuner at the •Colborne Rouse un
Friday evening last. Dinner was ser-
ved to about fifty guests,. the great
storni that prevailed the previous day
preventing. the loyal Sous of Delnutiller
and Goderich township. ftom Ineltiug a
grand rally. Roast beef done to a
turn, gravies and salads, plum pud-
ding and brandy sauce, mince tarts,
etc., with tea and coffee filled the
menu. After the cloth Vas removed
Mr. Humber gave the toast to the
"King" and thentook his chair, mak-
ing a very happy speech, followed by
another equally So by Mr. Ball. Mr.
Woolgear presided at the piano during
the evening, rendering effectively some
pretty selections suitable for the oc-
casion. Mr..Hoskin kindly sang "The
Englishman" and later recited "The
Cavalry Charge," which won such
warm applause that for the recall he
gave "Charity." Mr. J. Thomas*
cornet solo was very much admired.
Captain Noble was- in- good trim and
sang "Betsy. Gay" with as 'much vim
as if spring time had. come .and he
could launch a schooner of the same
name on old Lake Huron. Votes of
thanks succeeded by "For lie's a Jol-
ly Gaoct Fellow," the. "National .A.n-
them" and "Altai Lang Syne" wound
Up a y oy pleasant meeting.
The Woodmen of the World held
their • annual supper at the Victoria
restaurant, The supper was served in
fine style by the staff of that well
ecitiipped cafe, Speeches were made in
honorof the craft by the official or-
ganizer, Mr. a a McConnell, who
had 'returned from a most successful
tour through the • county, whieh made
his face beam with smiles. Mr- Hal-
liday Smith. •and several. of his young
friends have joieed the order. Dr.
Hunter did not fail to attend althou-
gh hawand Mrte. Hunter attended the'
progressive euchre party and 'dance at
Oddtellow'R hall. The usual votes .of
thank's, were given, not forgetting the
Clinton Woodinee who so . loyally
drove Up. The orchestra gave Some
find selecgions both during .the supper
and after, •
The funeral of the late Letitia Drope
relict of the late Edward Rothwell,
and.. mother of Mr; • Harry 'Rothwell.,
s� well known to our eitizens, took
place on Tuesday, the reinains .coming
on Moaday„ from the. residence of
Mrs. T. I3,. VanEvery. The late . Mr.
aud 'Ws, • Rothwell were natives of
freland and were married in Canada
many years before taking up their re-
sidence .in Godericli 'in 1872. Since
leaving. Goderich in the year 1885 the
late Mrs. Rothwell taok up her resi-
dence in Galt where :she die(' at-. the
advanced age. of 83 years, .111=h -regret-
ted bv her many friends who always
found a loyal and 'generous friend in.

dered the beautiful recitation "Jesus

ms" sung and illustrated by twelve

beautiful and touching . sight, Miss
Millie Campbell presided at the piano
daring the evening.. Miss Gaden drill-
ed the boys and girls most creditably.
The National Anthern was sung by all.
Mrs. Chas. Mason is making such
favorable progress at Dr, Gunn's hos-
pital in Clinton that liar brother-in-
law, Mr, George Green, says she will
soon return to her home in Brucefield.
