Wingham Police respond to multiple calls May 12 The Wingham Police Service responded to several calls on May 12, including two suspected impaired drivers and a collision. At 8:58 a.m., Wingham Police were called to back up an OPP officer on Brussels Line regarding a suspected impaired driver. On May 23 at 7 p.m. Huron Perth Presbytery Pastoral Relations and Oversite will be conducting an interview with the Belgrave congregation as part of the official board meeting. This interview will take place in the church basement. Please try to attend to allow for a complete report to be conducted on your behalf. Linda and Carol are very thankful Obituaries VERONICA GRIFFITHS (NEE BLAKE) 1926-2018 Veronica Griffiths (nee Blake) passed away peacefully at her home in Guelph, on Sunday, May 6, 2018. She was in her 92nd year. Her memory will be lovingly cherished by Guy, her husband of 63 years, her six children Peter, Paul, David (Karen), Gregory (Susan), Veronica (Eric) and Edward (Kristen), her 13 grandchildren and her one great-granddaughter. Veronica was born in Brussels on her family's farm on what is now known as St. Michaels Road. She spent a good part of her childhood in St. Augustine (Huron County) with her mother's family (Kinahan) after her father's early death. She was a primary school teacher and met her future husband, Guy, in Goose Bay, Labrador during the Korean War. They were married in the old St. Ambrose Church, Brussels, in September, 1954. They settled in Montreal and Val -David where they raised their large family. After their retirement, they returned to Ontario, first living in Oakville and finally in Guelph. Family and friends were received at Riverside Funeral Home for visitation on Saturday, May 12 followed by funeral mass at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Father Keith Morrison officiated. Interment was at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Red Cross would be greatly appreciated. Condolences may be left at www.riversidefuneralhome.ca ROBERT "BOB" JOSEPH RYAN Robert "Bob" Joseph Ryan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Country Terrace, Komoka. He was 85. Bob was the loving husband of the late Barbara Louise Ryan (2011). He was predeceased by his daughter Pamela (who died at childbirth) and by parents Lawrence and Marjorie Ryan. Bob was the loving father of Jo Ann Lamers and John, Tim Ryan and Becky Tilbury and Scott Ryan and Jackie Arms, all of London. He was loved by his siblings Joan and Donnie (deceased) McDonald, Gerald and Anne Ryan, Jim and Betty Ryan, Jack and Marianna (deceased) Ryan, Nelson Ryan (deceased) and Sister Teresa Ryan. Bob will be dearly missed by in- laws Ann and Bill (deceased) MacFadden, Joan and Terry (deceased) Taylor, Rick (deceased) and Linda Belton and Bev and Ralph Harper. He leaves behind many beloved grandchildren, a great-grand- daughter, nieces, nephews, grand- nieces and grand -nephews. Bob dearly loved his family and his many years driving for Sears. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Justin's Parish, London, on Saturday, May 12 with visitation one hour prior. Father Mark officiated. Interment of the ashes at Forest Lawn Cemetery followed the service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Bob are asked to consider the Alzheimer Society, London and Middlesex or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. For information and online condolences, please visit www.westviewfuneralchapel.com At 9:51 a.m. police received calls regarding a suspected impaired driver in the vicinity of the Mac's convenience store on Josephine Street in Wingham A witness was following the vehicle and provided police with updates on location. The Wingham police were able to pink card for our contributions towards "Change Her World". They appreciated the warm welcome they received from our congregation. The Community Coffee Break is every second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Belgrave Community Centre. Everyone is welcome. FROM BELGRAVE intercept the vehicle near Bluevale and the officer conducted standard field sobriety tests. It was determined that the driver was to be assessed by a drug recognition expert. The driver was arrested and transported to the West Grey Police Service where testing was conducted and it was determined that the driver was impaired by a drug. A 38 -year-old from Underwood is charged with Impaired operation of a motor vehicle. *** At 5:05 p.m. Wingham Police were called to assist the South Bruce OPP at a collision south of Teeswater involving a van and a horse and buggy. Five of the crash victims were transported to hospital, one of them by air ambulance.
