Blyth Artisan Market aims for May 31
By Denny Scott
The Citizen
With a final hurdle of fording a
temporary home still in place, the
Blyth Artisan Market will soon be
seeking vendors for its May 31
opening.
The market, a Blyth Business
Improvement Area (BIA) initiative
with funding from the Regional
Tourism Operation 4 (RTO4), will
feature "local makers of anything",
according to organizer Amy
Zoethout. She and the BIA are
currently working with North Huron
Township to try and secure a
location to operate until its
permanent home opens behind
374 Queen Street, the structure
north of Blyth Memorial Hall.
The market will run Thursdays
from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. from May
31 to Sept. 13. The market will also
run four Sundays, July 8 and 15 and
Aug. 12 and 19, from noon to 5 p.m.
As of North Huron's last council
meeting on May 7, market
organizers were asking for the
weekly event to run on Dinsley
Street. The request asked the street
be closed from the intersection of
Dinsley and Queen Streets west to
the alleys that run behind main street
stores.
"We're waiting on confirmation
from council before we start getting
the word out," she said, saying
timing to get the market started is
limited due to the brief timeframe

May 13 were Brenda Brooks and

Marilyn Scott was organist and
Katie Dockstader, choir director.
Emily Phillips introduced the
guest speaker, David Kai (nephew of
Margaret and Don Kai). David
welcomed everyone to church and
drew everyone's attention to the
announcements printed in the
bulletin.
David invited everyone to greet
one another. The first hymn, "Love
Divine, All Loves Excelling" was
sung followed by the lighting of the
Christ candle on the altar table. The
call to worship was repeated
responsively followed by the prayer
of approach said in unison.
For the children and all those
young at heart, David brought along
his guitar and sang a song that he
had written for his mother. Each
letter of the word "mother" had a
line in the song. The hymn, "Jesus
Loves Me" was sung. The scripture
reading was from John 10: 7-14. The

choir sang a version of "This Little

David's message to the
congregation "Home Shepherding."
We all repeated the 23rd Psalm. We
are all part of the home shepherding.
We are either parents, coaches,
teachers, grandparents and we all are
shepherds. A shepherd is to guide
and look after the sheep while we
are to shepherd our children and
help them along life's journey. The
church nurturers all of us no matter
our age. We are all like the sheep we
wander away from God and He has
to bring us back to the fold. All that
we are today is largely because of
our mothers with God's help.
The next hymn, "God is My
Shepherd" was sung. The offering
was received followed by the
offertory response "Your Work, 0
God, Needs Many Hands," the
offertory prayer, the singing of the
hymn "God Our Protector" leading
into prayer, the prayers for the
people, silent prayers and the
singing of the Lord's Prayer.
The last hymn "All the Way My
Saviour Leads Me" was followed by
the benediction and the singing of
the response "Wherever You May
Go." Everyone was invited for treats
and coffee and to meet David.
association with the RTO4 funding.
Zoethout said she hopes to attract
an average of 10 vendors every
week, including food producers and
local crafts people.
The market will open just before
Blyth Festival theatre audience
members depart Thursday matinees
and close shortly after the Festival's
night show starts, allowing vendors a
somewhat captivated audience
according to Zoethout. She also said
that she thinks residents of Blyth and
the surrounding area will come out
to support local vendors.
Vendors can contact Zoethout at
blythartisanmarket@gmail.com to
get involved.
The market will also feature local
musicians who will perform from 5-
7 p.m. Zoethout has also encouraged
local musicians to contact her.
The BIA looked to Zoethout as
she, her husband George and their
business partner Dana Lumby
currently run the Goderich Makers
Mercantile and Creative Space.
The commercial space followed
the three crafting a market similar in
function to the Blyth Artisan Market,
getting involved with the Goderich
BIA and finding such success
that it became a year-round
project.
Zoethout said working with North
Huron and the Blyth BIA has
provided a similar start-up
experience and said she was very
happy the Blyth BIA asked for her
support with the project.

The Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund donated a defibrillator
in honour of the late Paul Josling, former Blyth Fire
Department Chief, as part of its Run Around the Square
event on Sunday. The unit will be placed at Blyth Cowbell
Brewing Company and will travel with the company to
events. Above, Fund co-founder and OPP partner of
Mounsey Patrick Armstrong shows the plaque that will be

He who walks by Scripture rule
(Thomas Brooks)
"How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to Your Word."
Psalm 119:9
"I have hidden Your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." Psalm
119:11
If you would not be outwitted by any of Satan's evil schemes, then walk by the
rule of the Word of God.
He who walks by Scripture rule, walks most safely.
He who walks by Scripture rule, walks most honorably.
He who walks by Scripture rule, walks most sweetly.
When men throw off the Word, then God throws them off --and then Satan takes
them by the hand, and leads them into snares at his pleasure.
He who thinks himself too good to be ruled by the Word, will be found too bad to
be owned by God; and if God does not, or will not own him --then Satan will by
his stratagems overthrow him. Those who walk by Scripture rule, shall be kept in
the hour of temptation.
"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in
the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the
LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night." Psalm 1:1-2
"Sanctify them by the truth; Your Word is truth." John 17:17
