Huron County was one of many regions across Ontario that fell victim to the violent windstorm
that enveloped the province Friday afternoon. Temperatures dropped and high winds made
their way through the community causing plenty of damage. Trees were down and some
community members even reported damage to their roofs. On Morris Street, a tree came
down, affecting a transformer that knocked out power to a number of village homes for several
hours. It was restored to many residents later that night. (Denny Scott photo)

Street to Westmoreland as a

Director of Recreation and
Facilities Pat Newson suggested
council have reports brought back
from both herself and Director of
Public Works Sean McGhee before
making a decision. Council moved
and approved the decision.
Councillor Trevor Seip, however,
said he wanted to make sure the
Blyth market, which is similar in
operation to the Wingham Farmers'
Market, would receive the same
amount of support from council that
the Wingham market did. He
requested that all support given to
the Wingham market be part of the
reports brought back to council.
Stewart reported that the other
projects approved included the
Hometown Holiday Weekend, an
expansion on the Lighting of the
Lights ceremony that will span Nov.
30 to Dec. 2 and include a dinner,
dance, firefighters' breakfast, free
skate, chili cook -off and celebrity
reading of the CBC Christmas
Carol; a project focused on utilizing
local flora to create clothes dyes
through the Fashion Arts and
Creative Textiles (FACTs) program;
historical plaques and portraits
being put up on and in buildings,
respectively, giving a historical view
of the village; Flower Me Blyth, a
project through Pick-A-Posie, a
local costume creation and rental
business that will see two "head -in-
hole" displays made that will feature
plants and costumes providing a
perfect photo opportunity for
visitors; an online branding
initiative for the BIA and lastly a
cycle company set to conduct tours
of the area.

how to avoid injury in their own
homes.
If funding was secured, Horseman
also said that the paramedics could
work with local hospitals to support
the existing Home at Last program,
which would assign a personal
support worker to a person when
they return home after a hospital
stay. They worker could help the
patient settle into their home and see
what they need, Horseman said.
Community paramedicine,
Horseman said, is not in competition
with existing services, but rather it
supplements the health human
resources shortage that is known to
exist in Huron County.
In the future, Horseman said he
hopes the program could employ
one full-time paramedic and four
part-time paramedics to allow the
program to run 12 hours a day, seven
days a week. However, that would
still leave service gaps because of
timing issues.
He did say that the program
requires a part-time co-ordinator for
marketing, networking, promotional
events, co-ordination of visits and
education of new physicians.
Horseman said that the long-term
goals for the initiative are: establish
a steering committee with the Huron
and Perth hospitals and other service
providers to engage the Local Health
Integration Network (LHIN) to
provide sustained funding for the
program; recruit dynamic,
experienced paramedics with a
strong interest in community
wellness, health promotion and
illness prevention; enter into an
agreement with the Huron County
Housing Department and McMaster
