Fed steers, heifers sell on strong trade
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending April
27 were 2,714 cattle and 695 lambs
and goats. On Tuesday fed steers
and heifers sold on a strong active
trade at prices $1 to $2 higher.
Choice steers and heifers sold $143
to $148 with a high of $162.50.
Second cut sold $140 to $143. Cows
sold actively at prices $1 to $2
higher. On Thursday heavy holsteins
sold $5 higher this week while all
other cattle sold steady. Lambs sold
slightly higher, sheep sold barely
steady and goats sold steady. On
Friday calves and yearlings sold on a
strong active trade with calves
selling at prices $3 to $5 higher with
grass -type cattle selling at a
premium. Yearlings sold $2 to $3
higher.
Matt Ferraro of Hanover,
consigned 43 head that averaged
1,418 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $150.54. One blue heifer
weighed 1,485 lbs. and sold for
$162.50. Ron Smith of Denfield,
consigned nine heifers that averaged
1,382 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $146.24. One grey heifer
weighed 1,515 lbs. and sold for
$151.25.
Chris Smith of Brussels,
consigned 15 steers that averaged
1,650 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $147.16. Three red steers
averaged 1,583 lbs. and sold for
$154.50. Dave Baker of Brussels,
consigned six steers that averaged
1,707 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $149.67. One red steer
weighed 1,675 lbs. and sold for
$154.
There were 275 cows on offer.
Beef sold $74 to $84 with sales to
$91.50; D1 and D2, $70 to $74 with
sales to $82; D3, $64 to $69; D4,
$60 to $65. Premier Blues of Dublin,
consigned one limousin cow that
weighed 1,760 lbs. and sold for
$91.50. Joel Brodie of Blyth,
consigned one shorthorn cow that
weighed 1,055 lbs. and sold for $90.
There were nine bulls selling
$84.50 to $119.50. Gerry McPhee

Bos family celebrates 50th
50
years
Art and Corrie Bos celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary on Saturday at Memorial Hall in Blyth. They
welcomed friends, family members, neighbours and
community members, as well as Corrie's brother from
Holland. The day also featured a special performance by
the Men of Note choir. (Denny Scott photo)

marked their 50th wedding
anniversary with a special party at
Blyth Memorial Hall over the
weekend.
The couple was wed in Wassenaar,
Holland on April 25, 1968
by minister Dr. Mey Mesdag.
Art was a dairy farmer, and Corrie
was a bank teller and the two lived
together for six years in
Bodegraven, Holland, having two
children, Anita, who would
later wed Harry Otten, and
Arthur, who married Chastity
Colquhoun.
They immigrated to Blyth in
March of 1974 and bought a dairy
farm. They had two more sons,
Conrad, who would later marry Barb
Wynja, and Henry who married
Sandra Walsh.
In 2000, the family moved to their
current farm on Moncrieff Road.
Art and Corrie have 16
grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren.
The celebration on April 28
welcomed special guests Henk and
Nel Nell, Corrie's brother and sister-
in-law, from Holland.
It also featured a special
performance by the Men of Note
Choir, which just recently celebrated
its 20th anniversary with a special
concert in Clinton.
"We thank all our guests for the
wonderful day we had and above all
we thank the Lord for all our
blessings," Corrie said after the
event.

sales to $143; good holsteins, $113
to $124 with sales to $128; Si heavy
holsteins, $105 to $120; heavy

Reitzema of Palmerston, consigned
one simmental steer that weighed
865 lbs. and sold for $143. John L.
Miller of Lucknow, consigned four
head that averaged 728 lbs. and sold
for an average price of $120.48. One
holstein -cross heifer weighed 830
lbs. and sold for $137. Steven
McNichol of Blyth, consigned six
holstein steers that averaged 685 lbs.
and sold for an average price of
$121.30. One holstein -cross steer
weighed 760 lbs. and sold for $128.
Lambs under 50 lbs. sold $319 to
$355; 50 - 64 lbs., $331 to $350; 65
- 79 lbs., $327 to $339; 80 - 94 lbs.,
$325 to $332; 95 - 109 lbs., $328 to
$334; 110 lbs. and over, $302 -
$321/Ib.
Sheep sold $100 to $135.
Goats: billies sold $150 to $300;
nannies, $50 to $125; kids: dairy,
$180 to $405; meat, $205 - $415 / lb.

consigned 151 head of cattle. Fifty-
nine steers averaged 890 lbs. and
sold for an average price of $182.70.
Fifty-two heifers averaged 868 lbs.
and sold for an average price of
$158.44.

NOTICE OF NOMINATIONS
Nomination for the office of school board trustee
One (1) person to be elected to represent the electoral district of
Central East Huron consisting of the
Municipality of Central Huron and Municipality of Huron East
Nominations/Registrations may be filed during regular business hours at the office of the Clerk for the
Municipality of Huron East, 72 Main Street South, Seaforth, Ontario NOK 1WO between May 1st, 2018 and
July 26th, 2018 and on Nomination Day July 27th, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Nomination/Registration papers and full particulars may be obtained at the Municipal Office.
A signed consent to the nomination, a declaration of qualification by the candidate, the $100.00 filing fee
(cash, money order or certified cheque) and identification of the candidate are required.
Electors are hereby given notice that if a greater number of candidates are certified than are required to fill
the said offices, an election will be held. Voting Day will be Monday, October 22nd, 2018.
Please be advised that no person who proposes to be a candidate may solicit or accept contributions for
election purposes, or incur expenses until that person's nomination has been filed.
