HC could waive building fees
By Shawn Loughlin
The Citizen
Huron County Council is
considering waiving the county's
portion of a bylaw amendment fee of
$1,224 for a building project for the
Bayfield Agricultural Society.
The society is planning to replace
its animal display building because
the current building is in need of
major repairs. The plans call for a
structure that's 30' by 30'. It will
house animals during the Bayfield
Fall Fair and act as storage
throughout the remainder of the
year. An additional 15' by 20'
building will also hold dry storage
for the fair.
Doug Yeo, who spoke to Huron
County Council about the project at
its April 11 committee of the whole
meeting, said that the zoning bylaw
amendment is asking for parking, a
loading zone and a driveway, all
requirements that didn't exist when
the building was first constructed
decades ago.
Yeo also said that the Bluewater
portion of the fee is $612 and
the local council has expressed its
willingness to waive it as well.
Huron East Mayor Bernie
MacLellan said that if the local
council was willing to waive
its portion, that Huron County
Council should consider it
as well.
Council authorized staff to prepare
a report on the request and bring it
back to a future council meeting.
