PAGE 12. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 2018. Support for Humboldt Broncos 'was truly Canadian' PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO By BRENDA RADFORD Call 523-4296 What a wild weekend that was. I heard one weather person last week speak of the forecast as perfect storm conditions. Do you remember that movie, with George Clooney? At any rate at this point in time, Sunday afternoon, our area seems to have not fared too badly — just windy and icy. And we personally are some of the fortunate ones who have had no reason to go out. One can stay quite comfy indoors at times like this with a sports channel [after all, it is playoff time], movie channels and a hobby. Clinton apparently was dealing with power outages most of the weekend. The village of Londesborough was without hydro on Monday and others along Highway 4 south of the village were out for about 20 hours overnight Sunday. Maybe while you've been in this weekend you have set out those e - recycling items for Saturday and beverage containers for the Lions Club. One sad note I want to pass on to area folk. I have learned that a former resident of the area, Charlie Crawford, passed away on Good Friday after a struggle with cancer. Charlie and Wendy [Caldwell] moved to British Columbia shortly after their marriage. Charlie, brother of Bill, grew up on the 13th of Hullett, now Hullett-McKillop Road, west of Highway 4. If you would like to send condolences to Charlie's family, the address is 544 Denali Drive, Kelowna, British Columbia V 1 V 2P6. The other sad note of recent days has been from Humboldt, Saskatchewan. Whether it was for hockey or some other reason such as a school trip we've all had kids in a similar situation. So we can relate and empathize. The number of folk who showed their support on Jersey Day (April 12) was truly Canadian. The village cleanup that was scheduled for last Saturday will be rescheduled. If you were intending to help or were expecting help another date will be set. The Sunday service at Londesborough United was also cancelled. Rev. Paul Ross will be in the pulpit on April 22 and will offer the Sacrament of Communion. Rev. Terry Fletcher has experienced some setbacks since his surgery last Wednesday and continues to be monitored in the ICU of Kitchener Hospital. Rest assured he his getting the best of care but your prayers would be welcomed for he and his family. Prayers need to be sent heavenward also for Barb Bosman as she, too, deals with a heart issue. By noon on Monday the UCW meeting planned for April 16 had been cancelled and re -scheduled for Monday, April 23. FROM LONDESBORO ><PLORNET Connect to what matters Supporting Humboldt Across Canada on Thursday, April 12, Canadians donned sports jerseys to honour the 16 Humboldt Broncos from Saskatchewan who died in a bus accident earlier this month as well as the survivors and the families impacted by the event. Above, students from Miss Lobb's Grade 7/8 class at Hullett Central Public School joined in. Back row, from left: Malia Lyons, Jillian Shortreed and Cassidy Shannon. Middle Row: Cole Ferguson, Chandler Bromley, Bradley Hummel, Shyanne Hubbard and Alexis Bernier. Front row: Ian Driscoll, Ben Buttar, Braeden MacDonald, Colby Dale and Kaden Huether.
