(Denny Scott photo) Snow decision frustrates BIA Members of the Blyth Business Improvement Area (BIA) Board of Directors had one answer when North Huron Councillor Bill Knott asked them if they would pay more for snow removal: No. Knott reported to the BIA that, during the April 3 meeting of North Huron Council, a motion to investigate restoring snow removal to Blyth's downtown core to previous levels was denied. "It became a huge topic of discussion when Councillor Trevor Seip decided it should be a marathon discussion of servicing differences between Blyth and Wingham," he explained. "It's not though. It's a safety issue and an accessibility issue. It should be done and, for some reason... Seip didn't understand what we were asking. The motion was defeated." Knott said East Wawanosh representative Deputy -Reeve James Campbell also objected to it, alongside Seip and Wingham Ward Councillor Yolanda Ritsema- Teeningna. "We have a policy and... while it's great to have blanket policies, they don't always work," Knott said. "This is one of those cases." He further explained that, while Wingham is under thrice -weekly snow removal, he has heard from business owners there they aren't happy with it either. Knott then asked if business owners would be willing to pay more to have snow removed from in front of their buildings when necessary instead of on a schedule, a practice implemented last summer by council. While the question was a simple one and the most resounding answer was no, business owners said that, even under the thrice -weekly program that sees snow removed Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the job still wasn't getting done. "They haven't done it in front of my business," said Wonky Frog co- owner Cat O'Donnell. Queens Bakery co-owner Les Cook said the snow can't be left on the street because, as Knott had pointed out to council, the roads are too narrow to have any snow on without causing accessibility issues. Blyth service groups representative and Blyth Legion member Crystal Taylor said that, currently, snow removal doesn't occur until after 9 a.m., which doesn't help anyone trying to get into town in the morning. "Doing it at 10 a.m. after a coffee break isn't acceptable," she said. BIA Chair Karen Stewart said that Wingham and Blyth shouldn't be compared in such a fashion as they aren't comparable entities. Cook agreed, saying this isn't a luxury, but a right to be able to have people park on the main streets and get to the sidewalk. Stewart set a date for concerned business owners to meet on Wednesday, April 11 to plan to be a delegation at North Huron's next council meeting. Knott said he would reintroduce the motion at that meeting, scheduled for April 16. This is just the difference between the Christian and the worldling (Charles Spurgeon) "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised." Job 1:21 "It was good for me to be afflicted --so that I might learn Your decrees." Psalm 119:1 This is just the difference between the Christian and the worldling: The worldling blesses God while He give him plenty, but the Christian blesses Him when He smites him! He believes God to be too wise to err --and too good to be unkind. He trusts God's heart --where he cannot trace God's hand. He looks up to Him in the darkest hour --and believes that all is well. "We know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."
