Cowbell's
Shindig, one of Blyth Cowbell
Brewing Company's beers, will now
be served all year in the Ontario
Legislative dining room after being
voted best lager by MPPs, cabinet
ministers and legislative staff.
Members of the Legislative
Assembly of Ontario gathered at
Queen's Park on Tuesday, March 27
to taste and vote for their favourite
Ontario craft beers during the 13th
annual Ontario Craft Brewers'
Legislative sampling event.
Hosted by Hon. Dave Levac,
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly
of Ontario, Ontario MPPs and
Queen's Park staffers were invited to
sample a wide selection of craft
beers from 32 craft breweries from
26 ridings across the province and
cast their votes in favour of the craft
beers to be highlighted at the
Legislative Assembly for 2018-
2019.
"The Speaker's Tasting is a
highlight on the Queen's Park
annual calendar," says Speaker
Levac. "MPPs and staff enjoy
sampling local beer and food and
voting for their favourite local,
independent craft brewers."
Voting ballots were given to the
guests allowing them to vote for
their favourite beers in specific style
categories, as below. The winning

Festival Gallery
2018 season set
Now into its 43rd year, the Blyth
Festival Art Gallery will continue its
mandate of presenting quality art
work to the Huron County
community as well as to visiting
theatre -goers through its schedule of
exhibitions for 2018.
The annual Student Show has a
growing reputation for featuring the
best work from art students in Perth
and Huron County secondary
schools. It opens May 3 and runs
until May 25.
The public at large is invited to
submit their art for the annual
Community Show, a non-juried
(open) exhibition from May 26 to
June 16. Work for the show will be
accepted at the gallery from 9 a.m.
to noon on May 26.
The gallery annually presents
three exhibitions of professional
level art. The first of these, "Every
Fibre of My Being", is by Kathy
White, a Stratford fibre artist who
uses wool yarn and beeswax to
create complex realistic images with
a dreamy haze. It opens on June 22
and runs until July 14.
This will be followed by "In
Retrospect", an exhibition in various
media by a group of artists whose
professional collective, the Huron
Society of Artists, dissolved more
than 20 years ago. Many of the
members are still producing creative
work and maintain close friendships
with each other. It may be viewed
from July 20 to Aug. 18.
From Aug. 24 to Sept. 15, the
viewing public will be treated to a
show of whimsical marionette
puppets and sculptures, titled
"We've Been Here for So Long - the
Huron County Show". Gemma
James -Smith creates the pieces as
caricatures of notable local residents
and historical figures.
This is an exhibition not to be
missed.
All exhibitions are organized by
an enthusiastic group of volunteers
and are displayed at the Bainton
Gallery in the recently renovated
Blyth Memorial Hall. The gallery is
open the same hours as the Festival
Theatre box office. Admission is
free. Donations are appreciated.
