The end of March went out like a
lion, I would say, with a wet, wild,
windy day. It started alright, but
went wild by the end of the day.
Our family gathered to celebrate
Easter and luckily, we gathered
early. An Easter egg hunt for the kids
just finished when the rain started.
The excited kids hurried in to open
their eggs and have some treats.
Needless to say, supper wasn't a
priority with the little ones, but the
adults were hungry. It was an early
meal and the families all headed
home by 6 p.m. It was quite windy
with pouring rain and they report a
tough drive for awhile.
Reports are that the sap is running
very well and is keeping the syrup
makers busy. It has been a good
week and the way the weather is
calling for the cool nights and kind
of warm days ahead, the season will
continue on!
The thrill of seeing hundreds of
tundra swans swimming on a local
pond seems to have passed. For just
over a week, we enjoyed the sight of
the swans every day and then they
were gone. Just a few remained in a
nearby field. They were resting up
before continuing their journey to
the Canadian Arctic from their
southern homes.
There were some other local folks
who made the trip to North Bay to
witness the Ladies World Curling
Championships. Neil and Marie
McGavin report seeing Ernie and
Annette Lewington, Norm Dobson
and a friend and Ken and Brenda
Dalton. The Daltons were staying at
Brenda's sister Janet's place and
enjoyed a great visit with her and
family.
Our sympathies are extended to
Bessie Johnston on the passing of
her husband, Ken Johnston. He will
be missed by his children Paul,
Kevin and Darren and their families.
Ken will be remembered as a life-
long, dedicated farmer. He had beef
cattle at one time and primarily
cashcropped. He will be
remembered as the man who
enjoyed waiting for Bessie. Whether
it be while she was on parade with
the Brussels Pipe Band, or doing set-
up or take-down for the Brussels Fall
Fair, Ken would sit and wait and
enjoy a visit with all who were there.
Meeting new friends or catching up
with old friends, Ken would enjoy
his time- just waiting! Our
condolences to the Johnston family.
Our sympathies are extended to
Brian Schlosser and his family on
the passing of his mother Verna
Schlosser. She will missed by her
other children Linda, Larry, Joseph
and Angela and their families. Our
condolences to all.
The Kelso family is going to
Provincials again with the Robotics
Team 1305 of North Bay. Bryan and
Heather (McGavin) Kelso have two
of their children as members of the
North Bay team. Their group 1305,
won the district competition held
last week and now will go on.
Congratulations to the McGavin
grandchildren, Jessica and Hayden.
There was a great crowd in
attendance for the buck and doe for
Bridget Blake and Jacob Williams.
The event was held in Seaforth and
it was a full house. The couple will
wed in August.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week includes Judy Shortreed,
Weston Murray, Connor den Dekker,
Nicole Williamson Murray, John
Baan, Brandy Leslie, Jack
McLachlan. April Fool's babies
include Matt Lee, Lily Fincham,
followed by Peter Bennett, Susan
