From the Minister's Study There's always another task in His Kingdom: Versteeg By Pastor Andrew Versteeg Brussels Community Bible Chapel I think that sometimes for a pastor the hardest day of the week is Monday. Usually Monday is the pastor's day off. It is a day that we can relax a bit, do some of our own things around the house, etc., or get away. But what makes Monday hard is that it is so different from the previous day, namely Sunday. Sunday we spend a considerable amount of our time at church with our people. We are teaching, preaching, visiting and sometimes entertaining at our homes. We had prepared for this all week, prayed about it and looked forward to it. And then it was over and Monday was upon us again. Kind of like coming back down from a mountain top to level ground. I find myself on Monday a bit tired physically and emotionally. I find myself at times a bit more easily irritated with my kids and, since Sunday was a big day for the kids as well, they too can be a bit off. This past weekend was no exception. Easter weekend is a big weekend for the church. It is busy, it Maitland Presbyterial hosts its annual meeting By Lorraine Clugston "Bundle up with God's Love" was the theme of the 2018 annual meeting of the Maitland Presbyterial of the WMS held at St. Andrew's, Wingham earlier this year. President Mary Simmons constituted the meeting and Rev. Carel Grundlingh, minister of St. Andrew's brought greetings to the women. The guest speaker for the day was Betty Faulkner of Listowel. She focused our thoughts on reflecting on God's love for each one of us, comparing the love of a fiance/husband to the love of our Father God. She encouraged us to be excited about sharing our love for Jesus as we bundle up in His love for us. Rev. Charmila Ireland led in worship. A short memorial service for Mrs. Linda Smith was led by the ladies of South Kinloss. A thank you letter was read from Austin VanHardeveld of Ripley, thanking us for sending him to Camp Kintail for a week last summer. The nominating committee gave a list of the new executive for 2018 and they were installed by Rev. Charmila Ireland of Molesworth and Brussels. We were invited to attend the spring rally in Belmore in May. Judy Watt gave the courtesy remarks and Mae Raynard closed the day in prayer. See histories and historic photographs on the Huron History section of our website www.northhuron.on.ca is emotional and suddenly it is over. So on Sunday evening before retiring for the day, my wife and I thanked the Lord again for Easter and we asked Him for His grace for Monday too. Tomorrow would be a new day and there would be new things to do. So we prayed about it, we took it to the Lord, and He heard our prayer. Life is like this. We have seasons of preparing and working toward something; then that moment comes and it is over. Then what? Soon it will be graduation time for a lot of college and university students; a day that they have so looked forward to for so long. It is a time of celebration, but then what? It could be a long -anticipated retirement, or it could be your sports team winning a championship. Then what? Recently I had a short conversation with some friends. Their "nest" is going to be empty next fall when their youngest goes to college, and they were asking that same question. Now what? This reminded me of Jesus' disciples on a few occasions where they were asking the same question. Now what? Think about what Easter weekend was like for Jesus' disciples. After all that had taken place that weekend and especially how it had ended on such a high note with Jesus' resurrection. But now what would they do? Jesus had left them with only one instruction and that was that they were to go to Galilee and wait for Him there. So they went to Galilee and waited for Jesus. While they were waiting they grew impatient and it seems that they were beginning to doubt if Jesus would show up. So Peter decided to go fishing, that was his trade and he had been a fisherman before Jesus called him to follow Him and be His disciple. I think that what Peter was saying was that he was going back to his old livelihood; after all he didn't know what else to The Regional Ministry of Hope Everyone Welcome! All the disciples went along with Peter. Then Jesus showed up. He had other things for them to do. He said to Peter, "feed My sheep". It was like Jesus was saying to Peter, "Peter I have more for you to do, I have greater things for you to do; I have work for you to do in My kingdom." I think that this is the way it is for Christians too. We go through different phases of life, and sometimes our work is done in one area, but the Lord will have other things for us to do in His kingdom. That is what I said to the couple who were wondering what to do after they became empty -nesters. I said to them, "the Lord will have something else for you to do. He will show you what it is" Later, when Jesus is about to go back to heaven, the disciples were again asking this same question. Now what? And again Jesus tells them to wait for Him. He would send the Holy Spirit who would guide and empower them for the work that Jesus had prepared for them. And so they waited, but this time they didn't go fishing while they waited, instead they prayed. God was faithful and He sent His Holy Spirit and from there it was clear what they were to do.
