Community breakfast continues growth
Free of charge
For years, Living Water Christian Fellowship served up a
free breakfast to the residents of Blyth and beyond on Good
Friday as a good will offering to the community. Now, with
the closure of the church, Huron Chapel has taken the
event over and ensured its success for years to come. The
event has been growing year after year, according to
organizer Gary Lisle, who says that between 25 and 30
more people enjoyed the event this year than did last year.
That continues a trend of growth the event has seen in
recent years. Above, Steve Cook, left, and John Uyl, did
some work behind the scenes to ensure everyone was well-
fed and enjoying their time at Memorial Hall. (Denny Scott photo)

The Citizen
The annual Blyth Good Friday
breakfast was again a success,
serving the most important meal of
the day to over 200 people at
Memorial Hall.
This was the seventh year that the
breakfast was served and the first
under the Huron Chapel banner after
six years as a Living Water Christian
Fellowship event.
Organizer Gary Lisle said that
over 200 people made it to the event
this year, which is up approximately
25-30 people from last year's event,
which was held at the Blyth and
District Community Centre due to
ongoing renovations at Memorial
Hall.
Lisle said that the event has seen
increased attendance nearly every
year it's been held, which is a good
trend for organizers.
With the closure of Living Water
Christian Fellowship, which has
been absorbed under the Huron
Chapel umbrella, Lisle said that the
new church has been very supportive
of the event.
Both churches, he said, have a
missionary mandate, so serving a
free breakfast to the community fits
well with how Huron Chapel hopes
to serve its community, Lisle said.
The concept for the free breakfast
was simply to serve a meal to the
community on a day when most
businesses and restaurants were
closed, Lisle said. For it to be on
Good Friday, it's clearly an
important day on the Christian
calendar, he said.
The church used to host two free
meals, one at Easter and one at
SHUR•GAIN
Thanksgiving, but found the Easter
meal was far more popular and
chose to focus volunteers' attention
on it.
The motivation behind it, he said,
was to give to the community like
Jesus gave to his followers. It is not
uncommon for those who take in the
breakfast to offer donations back to
the church, but Lisle says that's not
what the meal is about and they have
never accepted donations at it.
The meal was followed by
optional worship services at both
Blyth Christian Reformed Church
and Huron Chapel later that
morning.
