Last-minute advice
During a back -and -forth final game of the season, Blyth
Brussels Novice Rep coaches Mike Ansley, centre, and

to their team members. The talk must have worked,
because the team beat the Minto Mad Dogs 4-3 en route to

Rev. Terry Fletcher was absent
from the pulpit at Londesborough
United Church on Easter Sunday for
he continues to wait for his heart
surgery, now scheduled for April 11.
As a result, members of the faith
community led the morning service.
Mark Mitchell presented the
message, Erin Yantzi took charge of
the children's time and Fred Kreuger
and Brenda Radford took on other
aspects of the service.
A beautiful bouquet of flowers on
the memorial table was placed by
Marie Bromley and her family
Barb Bosman, choir director, is
also awaiting a medical procedure.

DOUG AND MARIAN FISCHER
Doug and Marian Fischer passed
away at their residence, on
Thursday, March 29, 2018.
Doug and Marian were the loving
parents of Dave and Sally Fischer,
Ellershouse, Nova Scotia; Cathy and
Don Dunbar, RR 1, Belgrave;
Wayne Fischer and Leah Heinisch,
Plattsville; Gail Fischer, RR 1,
Bluevale and Angela Fischer-
Dickison and Nathan O'Neil, Blyth.
They were the dear grandparents of
10 grandchildren and 10 great-
grandchildren.
Doug and Marian will be lovingly
remembered by their brothers and
sisters and their families, Lorretta
and Ron MacFarlane, Mary
Templeman, Bob and Willa Harris,
Ray and Connie Harris, Jean
Furness, Laverne Harris and Tom
Harris. They were predeceased by
Marian's brother Bert Harris, sisters
June Harris and Susan Dillon and
Doug's brother-in-law Bob
Templeman.
Visitation will be held at
McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham
on Thursday, April 5 from 2 - 4 p.m.
and 6 - 8 p.m.
Memorial services will be held at
the Wingham Knights of Columbus
Centre on Friday, April 6 at
11 a.m.

KENNETH JOHNSTON
Mr. Ken Johnston, RR 2, Bluevale,
passed away at Huronlea Home for
the Aged, Brussels on Saturday,
March 31, 2018. He was in his 84th
year.
Ken was the beloved husband of
the former Bessie Campbell,
cherished father of Paul and Joyce
Johnston, Kevin Johnston and Kelly
Anderson, Darren and Melissa
Johnston and dear grandfather of
Jill, Thomas, Jeran, Jayden, Landon,
Olivia, Max and Gabby. He was the
brother of Shirley Nicholson, Glen
Johnston and Murray and Audrey
Johnston. Ken is also survived by
sisters-in-law Mary and Jim Lavis,
Mary Campbell, Mary Shean, Lil
and Ron Smith, brothers-in-law
Colin and Beryl Campbell, Pete
and Isabel Campbell and Jerry
Barrett.
He was predeceased by his parents
Sparling and Beth Johnston and
brother Gary in infancy, sister-
in-law Jean Barrett and brothers-
in-law Ross Nicholson, Charlie and
Hugh Campbell and Murray Shean.
Visitation was held at McBurney
Funeral Home, Wingham, on
Wednesday, April 4. The
funeral service will be held at
McBurney Funeral Home Chapel on
April 5 at 11 a.m. Rev. Richard Hall
will officiate.

Bluevale United Church or a charity
of one's choice would be
appreciated as expressions of

BETTY MACDONALD
Betty MacDonald of Wingham,
passed away at Wingham and
District Hospital on Friday, March
30, 2018. She was in her 92nd year.
Betty was the loving wife of the
late Alex MacDonald who
predeceased her in 1999. She was
the cherished mother of Hugh and
Bonnie MacDonald, Don and Claire
MacDonald, Sandra and Davey
Edgar, Raymond and Susan
MacDonald, Carol and Cam Edgar,
the late Bonnie Daigle and Bob
Daigle, Greg MacDonald, Luanne
and Bill Kerr, Stewart MacDonald,
Allen MacDonald, Cindy and Paul
Skinn, the late Christine
(MacDonald) Small and Sally and
Harold Martin. Betty was the dear
grandmother of 31 grandchildren, 54
great-grandchildren and three great -
great -grandchildren and sister of
Lorraine Maase. Betty will be
lovingly remembered by Alex's
family.
She was predeceased by her
grandson Jason Edgar,
granddaughter Tara MacDonald,
great-granddaughter Elle Milton,
granddaughter -in-law Cindy
MacDonald, sister Helen and
brothers Willis, Johnny and Melvin.
Visitation will be held at
McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham
on Saturday, April 7 from 1 to 5 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at
St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church,
Wingham on Sunday, April 8 at 2
p.m.
Interment will take place in
Wingham Cemetery.

hymns, etc. Marjorie Duizer brought
along her harp and she, with chorus
help from the senior choir, sang
verses from "Hallelujah". Lynda and
Laura Scott conducted a hymn -sing
prior to the service.
During the children's time, Erin
showed them six symbols — one for
every letter of Easter. For example,
an angel, a stone, a picture of the
sun, a resurrection cross.
On Easter morning, Mary
Magdalene approached Christ's
tomb expecting to find the tomb
sealed with His dead body inside.
Her mind was busy with the details
of how she would be able to deal
with anointing His body. She was
expecting death and had only sad
expectations. Mary could not
comprehend what had happened.
She found life, not death.
All of us have had similar
situations. We approach events with
a preconceived notion or idea of
how things will play out. We have
known sadness, we have heavy
hearts. The reporting of events in the
Gospels reveal realistic human
reactions. The message encouraged
congregants to look for life, act
and District Hospital Foundation
would be appreciated as expressions
of sympathy.
