The celebrations are over, the
family and friends have returned
home and the leftovers are now put
to rest. So, Happy Easter. That
means spring is seriously on the
way.
Taking a survey of the land, you
know for certain that the next season
is upon us. The shades of green are
returning, new growth is obvious in
many spots and the robins are
hopping with happiness. Watching
nature can be as simple or as
complicated as you wish to make it.
A quick glance shows a few birds
checking the state of the lawn.
Another peek shows a blue jay
checking the rail fence for bugs or
seeds I presume. A bright red
cardinal spent time on the fence,
then popped down to do a thorough
check of the grass in the area. Of
course the robins were everywhere
doing their spring happy dance.
Spring diet availability check I
presume.
Murder in our midst is rare. This is
unknown territory for most of us and
so reaction to the news of the mess
in Bluevale was unique to each of
us. When death arrives we tend to
make it personal; how it affects us,
who was it and where did they play
in our lives. Everyone has a story.
Every person plays a role in so many

The week at the Brussels Legion
Branch began with the general
meeting of the Branch. There were
nine members of the executive in
attendance. It included the normal
flow of business with minutes,
financial reports, request for
donations, committee reports and
more. The Provincial Veterans
Service Officer will be in the area
the last week of May. Contact needs
to be made with Branch Service
Officer Mabel Glanville so an
appointment can be made if you
wish to see her. A few more changes
in procedures around the Branch are
being implemented and working
well. Housecleaning is coming
along nicely and we thank Linda
Bird and her grandson on catching
up with some extra cleaning and
some painting.
A revamp of the office is
underway as well as some upcoming
changes around the bar. The
entertainment committee is planning
ahead and has monthly karaoke
events planned for Friday nights.
The Spring O'Lympx on April 14
includes six interesting events and
organizers are looking for teams.
You can pre -register your two- or
four -person team by
e-mail at legion218@ezlink.ca or
call the Branch at 519-887-6562 and
leave a message.

already has some great items
arriving. We remind Comrades to
drop off their items sooner than
later. There is also going to be a
bake sale that day, so Comrades,
gather up the ingredients for your
favourite recipes, and have them
ready for that day. It will be a busy
day, with the official launch of
Sandra's Soups, and there will be
taste -testing of the favourites
available. The Branch receives a
portion of each sale. And let's not
forget the Catch the Ace progressive
raffle starts this week and the first
draw will be April 13. To kick off
the start of this exciting venture,
Adam Cousins will be on hand to
entertain for the evening.
The Branch was pleased to receive
a framed photograph of the WOAA-
winning Blyth Brussels Peewee
team. The Branch assisted in
sponsoring the team to attend a
tournament during the course of the
year. Thanks and congratulations to
the team for a great season.
The Thursday night darts had 10
darters taking aim at the boards. The
first place team was Sandra Josling
Brown and Catrina Josling and
second place was Penny Reynolds,
Wayne Smith and Sharon Robbins.
The Branch has begun its fish fry
season with its first event at the
Seaforth Curling Club. The crew fed
over 200 people on Good Friday
which was a bright sunny day for the
first outing. The crew included Eric
and Deb Ross, Mabel, Sharon and
Lisa Glanville and Joan Smith.
Good job folks.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
had four -and -a -half tables of players
hoping to be winners. Comrades
Glenn Bridge and Deb Cann were in
charge of the afternoon. Winners
were: first, Bruce and Jean
Hoelscher; second, Louise and
Mary; low, Frank and Betty and lone
hands, Hazel McGonigle and Janet
Davies.

other lives. It hurts. Sadness and
sorrow are there. Memories of the
folks involved come to the surface
and loss is front and centre for many
people at many different levels and
involvement.
For Easter people, the ones who
believe in death and resurrection,
life goes on. Spring is the proof.
Each day is different, but it is a new
day full of possibility and promise.
We live in hope. The yesterdays are
gone, hopefully dealt with and filed
away preparing for the next new day.
Life is tough, life is unfair, but life is
also a glorious gift to be used by
each of us. Celebrate the Easter in
our lives.
Take care of yourself, the nasty
bugs are still around. Keep your
hands clean and keep to yourself if
you're unwell, we all thank you.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
