Happy birthday was sung to Roger Hopper, who will celebrate his birthday on Wednesday, March 28. After the call to worship which was read responsively the choir sang an anthem followed by the singing of "He Came Riding on a donkey". The children gathered in the front pew for story time. Brian asked the children what today was. It was Palm Sunday. Two of Jesus' friends went to look for a special donkey that Jesus was going to ride on. When the friends found the donkey they took it to Jesus. They put their coats on its back and Jesus got on. When the people saw Jesus coming, they began to shout with joy, "Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!" Some people cut branches off of palm trees and laid them on the road. Other people spread their coats on the road. They all praised God for the wonderful thing Jesus had done. Jesus rode to the big city of Jerusalem with the crowds following him. The leaders of the people were angry with the people following Jesus. They do not follow us anymore, so they said they must get rid of Jesus. We have parades these days such as Christmas, Canada Day or St. Patrick's Day, but this was a different parade. The children adjourned to Sunday School. Muriel Coultes read scripture from Isaiah 50: 4-9, Philippians 5-11 and Mark 14: 1-16. Brian reflected that today was more Passion than just Palm Sunday and the story leading up to Christ's suffering. Nancy Jardin reported on the Minute for Missions. Don Shiell and Larry Harper took up the offering, which was dedicated. After the Lord's Prayer, the closing hymn, "Ride On, Ride On in Majesty" was sung, the benediction and blessing "Go Now in Peace" concluded the worship service.
