Entertainment & Leisure Festival seeking in -town accommodations for artists By Shawn Loughlin The Citizen In an annual struggle, the Blyth Festival is looking for housing for the actors and creative team members coming to the village for this summer's season. General Manager Rachael King says that the Festival is anticipating the arrival of approximately 65 people to Blyth for the coming season. It is anticipated that 45 of those people need accommodations for anywhere between one and six months, due to the extended Festival season. Due to transportation limitations, King said she expects that approximately 30 in -town spots are needed. The Festival is open to apartments, houses, spare bedrooms or basement suites. They would require access to and use of a kitchen. She said that the Festival is particularly interested in pet -free options due to allergies. King says that finding housing for Festival personnel remains a challenge. She is now in her second year after facing a particularly tall challenge last year. Not only was it her first year on the job, but she was faced with a bigger -than -average Festival season that made it even tougher to find accommodations. King says that while the Festival is hoping for any help it can get in meeting this challenge, with community members willing to offer rooms of their house, she is ideally looking for independent dwellings to house people and their families for a number of months. Artistic Director Gil Garratt said that while billeting in the community is a time-honoured tradition for the Festival, that set-up is a better fit for directors, designers or playwrights who are in Blyth for a few weeks, maybe a month. For cast members who could be spending as much as six months in Blyth between rehearsals and the extended season, an independent dwelling, whether it be a house, a farmhouse or an apartment, would really be ideal for those travelling artists. With development from Blyth Cowbell Brewing Company, housing in the village is a little tougher to come by, Garratt said, so he's hoping that landowners will be willing to come forward to the Festival to help Giles bring Holly show to Blyth Just like Buddy Holly Jeff Giles will be bringing his world-famous Buddy Holly impersonation to the Blyth Memorial Hall stage this weekend in "Buddy Holly's Rockin' Dance Party". How much easier it is to simply go with the crowd, regardless of right or wrong? The crowd changed their minds — but Jesus did not. He was steadfast through to the end, which is one of the many reasons why we lean on him. Put not your faith in mortal princes or in human heroes. Rather, fix your eyes upon Jesus. Build your faith and your life on Jesus. Look to him for wisdom and meaning. In times both lean and abundant, trust in the Lord. The Good News of Christ will not change. Not in seven seconds. Not in seven days. Not in seven months. Not in seven years. Not ever. God loves you. Christ died for you. The Holy Spirit is in you. You are worthy and you are loved. And that is something that we can shout about. Hosanna in the highest! A touch of Broadway is coming to Blyth when "Buddy Holly's Rockin' Dance Party" headlines at the Blyth Memorial Hall on Saturday, March 24 for a one-night performance. This special show features the amazing talents of international touring artist Jeff Giles, best known for his starring role in "The Buddy Holly Story", the official musical show of the legendary rock and roll pioneer who died in a tragic plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959. In Canada, Jeff Giles has starred as Buddy in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, where he was also featured on CBC television, and in Hamilton, where the show sold out the prestigious Theatre Aquarius for a month. Of his performance there, the Hamilton Spectator described Jeff Giles as "the sexiest Buddy Holly ever". Songs performed by Jeff Giles include Buddy's biggest hits like "Peggy Sue", "That'll Be the Day", "Rave On", "It's So Easy", "Everyday", "Oh Boy!", "Not Fade Away" and "True Love Ways" amongst the many audience favourites. Tickets to see this show at the Blyth Memorial Hall on Saturday, March 24 at 8 p.m. are on sale now for $39 each plus service charges and can be purchased at the theatre box office by calling 519-523-9300 or online at blythfestival.com. 4latceh, 23 t Lia NaCP rural 4 Best Wishes from 7 your family fj from outlying communities like Londesborough, Belgrave, Auburn, Walton and Brussels. Although, for those unable to drive, housing in Blyth is the ideal solution for those cast and crew members. While many of the artists travelling from city centres like Toronto won't have cars or driver's licences, some will and King says she'll be able to match them up with housing that is just outside of the village. King says that the Festival takes care of all housing accommodations, so any landlords willing to lease their properties to the Festival will be dealing directly with the Festival, which will be paying the rent.
