Heat Seekers vs. Ice
Hogs to raise funds
for Victim Services
On Saturday, March 24 the Fire
Department of North Huron (Heat
Seekers) will face off against the
Huron OPP (Ice Hogs) in a
fundraising hockey game to support
Victim Services Huron County. The
game will take place at the Blyth and
District Community Centre at 2 p.m.
"One of our most trusted scouts
who happens to live in Blyth has
informed us that the North Huron
guys have a very deep roster filled
with veteran leadership and some
really swift -skating puck movers on
the back end. He also tells us they
hosted try -outs for their team this
year so we are expecting a real
challenge," said Mark Gran, retired
OPP Ice Hogs right-winger. "With
that advance scouting knowledge,
we have had to make some
adjustments to our roster; rather than
trying to rely on a two-line system,
we will be bringing a full four lines
and our plan will be to skate them
into the ground."
"It will be standing room only on
the North Huron bench for this
exciting matchup. There is an
immense amount of talent on our
Heat Seeker team between the two
North Huron stations. And with our
very full roster and quick shifts,
quick goals will be the name of the
game," said a representative of the
Fire Department of North Huron.
"They say they want to skate us into
the ground but that doesn't faze us.
It just sounds like big rig envy and it
will be hard to skate us into the
ground when they are in our rear
view. Veteran skaters will lead the
way with young talent eager to
dangle their way through the OPP
roadblocks. We practise like we play
and this game will be no different."
"I know our players are keen to
get the blades back on and bring our
brand of hockey to Blyth this year,"
said Hogs Defenseman, Jamie
Stanley. "Although due to recent
roster transactions and a new coach
we aren't exactly sure ourselves
what brand of hockey that is going
to be; so rather than giving away all
of our secrets you will just have to
come out and watch. I do know the
MVP of last year's game (Constable
Matt Hall) is back between the pipes
and he has been boasting around the
office that his glove hand is quicker
than any speeding ticket he's ever
given out"
"I've heard the OPP Ice Hogs have
a strong team. Word on the street is
that a few of their players almost
made it to the NHL. Whether that is
fact or fiction will remain to be seen
on March 24. Last year's game
against our neighbouring fire
department, Huron East, resulted in
the OPP coming out on top. We plan
on turning that around this year.
They're going to come at us
aggressively and I am sure they will
bring the heat. Fortunately, we
don't mind a little heat," said a
member of the Fire Department of
North Huron.
Haley McNeil, an aspiring young
singer from Teeswater and student at
F.E. Madill High School, will sing
the national anthem. Dawson
Hallahan will drop the ceremonial
puck in memory of his brother,
Logan Hallahan, who lost his life in
a tragic accident. Assisting in the
puck ceremony will be OPP
Detachment Commander, Jason
Younan and Interim North Huron
Deputy -Chiefs, Chad Kregar and
Matt Townsend.
Silent auction prizes will be
available during the game. Tickets
are $5 each and can be picked up at
the Victim Services Huron office
inside the Seaforth and District
Community Centre or by calling
519-600-4108 and arrangements can
be made for tickets to be dropped
off. Tickets are also available
from any representative of the
North Huron Fire Department and
the OPP.
