THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MARCH 22, 2018. PAGE 11. Majestic WI hears from published author The Majestic Women's Institute met in the community room at the Brussels Public Library on Valentine's Day. The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute Ode and repeating the Mary Stewart Collect. Secretary Leona Armstrong read the minutes of the January meeting, Janet Haertel gave the treasurer's report and Kathy Bridge distributed the February newsletter. President Yvonne Knight conducted the business part of the meeting. Motions were made to donate to Hard-fought The Blyth Brussels Juvenile Crusaders took to the ice on Friday night in Blyth to take on the South Bruce Blades in some later winter hockey action. Unfortunately for the locals, on this night the visitors proved to be too much and won the contest by a score of 7-4. Money given to Majestic from Belgrave's disbanded WI which will also be sent to the Water Festival. The roll call was answered by telling what year you joined the Women's Institute. No one had to pay a fine, as everyone was dressed in red for Valentine's day. Yvonne Knight gave a reading. Numerous blanket, book and teddy bear packages were presented to Matt Townsend, Deputy -Fire Chief for the Fire Department of North Huron. These packages will be handed out to children who are experiencing any kind of trauma. On behalf of the department, Matt expressed his appreciation for the donations. Our speaker, Colleen Ranney, was unable to attend, so Kathy Bridge read her interesting message. Colleen is a published author of five books as well as a visual artist. She writes that the journey to publishing her books was exciting but not without its moments of discouragement. She told about the different things you need to do to get your books published. Her life motto is "no one is too small town to start living their dream". Kathy Bridge conducted an abbreviations quiz. Lucy Hesse offered to host a meeting to plan the coming year's programs. Following the Institute grace, everyone enjoyed a tasty lunch and a time of fellowship. Lunch was provided by Lucy Hesse, Yvonne Knight and Bev Craddock. The Majestic Women's Institute met in the community room at the Brussels Public Library on Jan. 10 at 1:30 p.m. A reading entitled "Happy 2018" was read by Lucy Hesse. She then divided the Majestic members and five guests into three groups for an afternoon of fun to chase away the January blues. Each group chose a game that they would like to play. Euchre and Rummikub were enjoyed and everyone picked a prize. The business part of the meeting was conducted by President Yvonne Knight followed by the singing of the Institute Ode and repeating the Mary Stewart Collect. Yvonne welcomed the guests and thanked the members for their help packing and delivering the shut-in boxes. The December minutes were read and the treasurer's report was given by Janet Haertel. The roll call was answered by telling what your favourite game is. Some of the answers were Lost Heir, Crokinole, Go Fish, Shoot, cribbage, canasta and euchre. Each institute member brought a wrapped gift for a surprise auction which was a lot of fun. Lucy Hesse was the auctioneer. Janet Haertel showed everyone the beautiful quilt on which Majestic members will be selling tickets. Following the Institute grace everyone enjoyed a tasty lunch and a time of fellowship.
