you cannot see the road, and a few
minutes later, the sun is shining
again. Cold, then mild, windy, then
not. Hard to know how to dress. It
was nice to have some snow for the
kids to be out to play in, but I
honestly didn't see many children
out playing. Not one road hockey
game to be found when I was
looking.
What could be seen is the wildlife

Blyth Maple Creek Farm held its annual March Break tours
last week, inviting people to experience maple syrup from
its inception with First Nations peoples all the way up to
modern syrup production. Above, visitors got to try their
hand at shooting a bow at a replica Ojibwa camp. Possibly
one of the youngest participants ever, Micah Bonikowsky
from Dufferin County, needed a little help from farm owner
Steve Bachert. Lucas Albers of Bluevale can be seen in the

crossing the road, because a couple
of skunks will not see another
winter. The groundhog was smarter
and was much quicker to scurry
away. The Canada geese are pairing
off for the mating season and there
are reports of the Tundra Swans in
the area. Many folks have had robins
around for awhile and two folks have
reported having possums out and
about on the property. Spring is on
the way!
Congratulations to Tim and Ronna
Lee on the birth of a daughter, Pearl
Joan, to make their family complete.
Pearl will be welcomed home by
twin brothers Weston and Jack. They
will have a busy household.
Congrats to all!
An entertaining night was enjoyed
by the Community Living group
including Walton's Michael Craig.
They travelled to Owen Sound for a
"Price is Right" show at the
BayShore. It was a great night with
many great prizes won — even a car!
They report a wonderful time.
We welcome Ken and Isabel
(Pearson) Wilbee to Huronlea. We
hope they are enjoying their new
surroundings. We also have Neil
Schade as a resident at Huronlea and
he enjoys visits from all his friends.
Congratulations to Alvin and Pam
McLellan on the arrival of another
grandson. Darren Jr., or D.J as he
will be called, is the son of Darren
and Sarah Baxter of Baden. D.J. was
welcomed home by big sister
Natalie.
Congratulations to the Gubelmann
family of Walton for their
outstanding success at the Canadian
Brown Swiss Annual General
Meeting. Ernst Gubelmann was
presented with the award for the
highest Composite BCA Brown
Swiss show cow — Gubelmann
Brookings Katie EX93.
They also received awards for
honour roll records and class leader
records in 2017 by their cows at the

The IPM Antiques and Historical committee, when directed to donate $2,000 by the IPM
executive, decided to split its donation evenly between the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby
Association and the Wingham Salvation Army. Above, the committee presents a cheque to the
Threshers executive, many of whom were involved with the Antique and Historical Committee.

Gubelmann family!
Our sympathies are extended to
the Machan family on the passing of
Aldeen Machan of Grey Township.
She will be missed by her children
Bonnie, Gord, Whitey, Russ, Sam
and Roy and their families.
Congratulations to Muzzy Lowe
on 55 years in the barber business. A
fixture on main street Brussels for
years, he has cut the hair of men,
generation after generation, and
from far and wide. Murray is quite a
guy and we hope he stays on main
for some time to come!
The Cranbrook Dart Club had 17
darters arrive to take aim at the
boards. Again, holidays and illness
took a toll on numbers participating.
It was Team 4 that won five games
consisting of Gayle Speiran and Jane
Zwep. Jane had the top score of 94
for the ladies and for the men, it was
Brad Speiran hitting 114.
A special milestone birthday was
celebrated for Jane Hall at JR's last
week. Jane celebrated her 80th
birthday surrounded by family and
friends. Her daughter Debbie, with
her daughter and her granddaughter,
made for the four generations
together. Jane's daughter Dianne and
her brother Bob Rann and wife
Peggy also attended for the party.
Many friends including Isabel
Wheeler, Nora Stephenson, Betty
Cardiff, Audrey Cardiff, Merle
Cousins, Betty Campbell, Marie
McCutcheon, Betty McCutcheon,
Alice Marks, Joan Bernard, Jean
Davidson, Leona Armstrong, Edna
McLellan and Gwen Smith and her
two grandchildren, along with a few
others, enjoyed the coffee, cake and
ice cream for all.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week included Bob Alexander,
Cassandra Banks, Edward Clark,
Reg Vinnicombe, Griffin Verkley,
Ray Huether Jr., Celeste Ryan, Aylah
Leonhardt, Cora Alcock, MacKinley
Ryan, Don Chesher, Jim Lee, Art
McNaughton, Eric Steinmen, Carol

all!
