Knott refutes blog, online posts
Councillor Bill Knott advised
members of North Huron Council
and the public at large that he is in
no way associated with posts on a
blog that had been attributed to him.
Reeve Neil Vincent first brought
up the issue during council's
Monday night meeting, saying he
knew it was an election year
due to the political activity on social
media.
"While I personally do not read a
lot of social media, I've been getting
a lot of second- and third -hand
comments about it," he said, adding
that some social media stories don't
cite reliable sources.
Vincent encouraged councillors to
make sure they had all the facts
behind any complaints regarding any
social media or online comments
attributed to councillors.
Knott would later identify himself
as being targeted by what he called
"fake news outlets" publishing
comments attributed to him that he
claims to have never written. In an
interview with The Citizen, Knott
said those blog posts were shared via
Facebook.
During the council meeting, he
said people can be easily misled by
such posts into believing the
comments are real.
While Knott has received
feedback regarding the issue, he said
he was having trouble dealing with
the amount of correspondence and
determining whether or not the e-
mails were from concerned
ratepayers or individuals fishing for
ways to further discredit him. He
encourages anyone with comments
or questions to contact him, but does
ask they provide an address, phone
number and name so he can verify
their identity before addressing their
questions.
Knott concluded his
announcement by comparing the
blog posts to the alleged Russian
interference with the 2017 federal
election in the United States,
and wished his fellow council
members good luck, saying it
was "going to be a long road
to the election."

Watson's Home Hardware
officially opened their new Blyth
location, formerly the Castle
Building Centre on Hamilton Street,
on Monday.
The site, which the company took
possession of two weeks ago,
required some renovations before
they were ready to open, however
Norm and Richard Watson said they
wanted to be open as soon as
possible for local customers.
"We still have to get the Home
Hardware sign up out front, and
there are some renovations we need
to do, but at the present, we're open,"
Norm said.
The Watsons expect the
renovations to take another four to
six weeks.
"After that, we will have
bathroom, tub and shower displays,
as well as the ability to keep some
flooring in stock, not just have
samples people can order from."
Richard pointed out that the store
was already fairly full as far as
products go. He felt that opening as
soon as possible was a good idea,
however, so that customers of the
Castle Building Centre had
somewhere local to go for their
needs.
"We wanted to reopen right off the
bat as soon as we could," Norm said.
"Everything that's happened here
happened in two weeks."
Under the Home Hardware flag,
the store matches the needs filled by
the Castle site but has also expands
offerings to include housewares and
small appliances.
The location is open daily Monday
through Saturday, with a firm
opening time yet to be established,
and closes every day at 5 p.m.
Some familiar with the store will
recognize former Castle Building
Centre owner Gary Courtney still
working at the location.
A grand opening will be held in the
coming months once all the
renovations are complete, Norm said,
and will likely be accompanied by a
special sale to mark the occasion.
As for what prompted the Watsons
to go ahead with the purchase, they
said the site was in a good location,
half -way between their (now)
second -newest store in Goderich and
their other locations in Listowel and
Gorrie.
"We have pretty good customer
support in the area, so we wanted to
be here for that," Richard said.
Norm added that, seeing the
investment and development that is
currently happening in Blyth made it
a great community to be part of with
plenty of potential for growth.

Rejecting the cross --they will lose the crown!
("Every Day!" Author unknown, 1872)
"If any man would come after Me — let him deny himself and take up
his cross and follow Me!" Matthew 16:24
Our Lord and Saviour plainly states the discipleship involves self-denial.
He who would tread in the steps of Christ --must be prepared to take up
his cross. It was no path of flowery ease that the Saviour trod --and anyone
who would follow Him must be determined...
to resist self and sin,
to accept the world's scorn, and
to take up any cross that might lie in the path of obedience and service.
Those who habitually consult their own ease, who indulge sinful self, and
will not take up a cross for Christ --are not His true disciples. Rejecting
the cross -they will lose the crown!
Surely, the remembrance of the Cross that Jesus bore for us, and on which
He bled and died to redeem us from the curse of the law and all the fearful
consequences of sin --should lead us cheerfully to take up any cross that
we might be called to bear for Him.
Jesus, I my cross have taken,
All to leave and follow Thee.
Destitute, despised, forsaken,
Thou from hence, my all shall be!
