There is a job for everyone, with no experience needed. The first hymn "0 Jesus, I Have Promised" was sung followed by the Lenten Tenebrae and Hillary putting out the second candle of Lent. "Behold, Behold I Make All Things New" was followed by the call to worship said responsively and the prayer of approach. The hymn "To Abraham and Sarah" was sung. The scripture reading was from Genesis 17: 1-7 and 15-16. The choir sang the anthem "0 Lord, My God, How Great Thou Art." Hillary asked the congregation, what is in a name? Some answered what they were called. She asked them have any of them changed what they were called. Sometimes we are call Katherine and later it is Katie or Kate. We are given a name at birth and as we grow up it may be shortened or we are even given a nickname. We are also called mom, dad, aunt or uncle, sister or brother. These names are associated with us. Our names often reflect how we live. Blyth United Church started as Blyth United Church and later became known as Blyth and Brussels United Churches, still individual churches but they are now a partnership. In the scripture, God told Abram that his name will be changed to Abraham and that Sarai's name would be Sarah. God told Abraham that He would make him father of many nations. At 99 years old, God promised Abraham that he would be a father. God asks Abraham to walk with Him and have faith in Him and God promised Abraham many generations to follow. God extends His love to all of us. We value our close relations, but often look further afield. We are all called to repurpose ourselves. We can go to a place were we can find God. The church may be that place. We believe in who we are and have faith that God will guide us just as He guided Abraham and Sarah. The next hymn "I Have Called You by Your Name" was sung. The offering was received followed by the singing of the response "Praise God from Whom All blessings Flow," the offertory prayer, the singing of the response "Don't Be Afraid" leading into the prayers for the people, silent prayers and the singing of the Lord's Prayer. The last hymn "I, the Lord of Sea and Sky" was followed by the benediction and the singing of the response "Peace Be with You." Everyone was invited for coffee, treats and fellowship. FROM BLYTH FIND THE CITIZEN ON FACEBOOK AND TWITTER I will uphold you with My victorious right hand! ("Every Day!" Author unknown, 1872) "Having obtained help from God --I continue until this day." Acts 26:22 This is the testimony of the great apostle of the Gentiles. Many were the perils to which he was exposed, and many were the hardships which he endured --but he was borne up and carried through them all, by the help of God his Saviour. Just so, He who was the Helper of the great apostle --is the Helper of the feeblest child in His family, or the weakest lamb in His flock. He is your Helper, beloved Christian reader! He who has redeemed you, not with corruptible things, such as silver and gold, but with His precious blood --will assuredly afford you seasonable aid. Look then to Him, in the discharge of your daily duties --for all needful wisdom and strength. In domestic cares and trials --remember that your Helper is near. In every hour of weakness and sorrow -cast yourself on His sustaining grace. In the hour of your extremity, when human help avails nothing --then cling to Him, and listen to Him as He says, "Do not be afraid, for I am with you! Do not be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with My victorious right hand!" Isaiah 41:10 A Grace Gem Submitted by: Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel, ON 519-291-1956 GET CONNECTED!
