WEBER, Lloyd William John.
Dec. 31, 1927. Feb. 22, 2008.
You meant so much to all of us,
You were special and that's no lie,
You brightened up the darkest day,
And the cloudiest sky.
Your smile alone warmed hearts,
Your laugh was like music to hear,
I would give absolutely anything,
To have you well and standing near.
Not a second passes,
When you're not on our minds,
Your love we will never forget,
The hurt will ease in time.
Many tears I have seen and cried,
They have all poured out like rain,
I know that you are happy now,
And no longer in any pain.
- Always in our hearts, never farm
from our thoughts - Patsy, Bruce,
Joanne, John, Bill and families.

North Huron may
shorten ice seasons
North Huron Township Council
will be looking at possibly
shortening ice seasons in Blyth
and/or Wingham as a means of
cutting back on facility costs.
During council's Feb. 8 budget
meeting, Director of Recreation and
Facilities Pat Newson brought
forward the idea to save money.
Newson did warn, however, it might
not be a popular decision.
She suggested that only one arena
be open at the end of the season
when teams are out of playoffs,
however she noted that an agreement
between North Huron and Huron
East to keep one arena open for the
Blyth Brussels Minor Hockey
Association (BBMHA) may make
doing that difficult.
"The idea is to not have the ice in
both Wingham and Blyth if we don't
have any teams going on to some big
championship," she said. "If there is
a team in that situation, we could
address it."
Newson said if council wanted to
pursue the idea, she would approach
the BBMHA and propose keeping
the ice in Wingham and moving
Blyth ice time there when it was
logical.
Councillor Trevor Seip said the
discussion around ice time needed to
be had. "We need to maximize
utilization," he said. "This is just a
conversation right now. I hope the
groups understand that we're not
doing this to cause grief, but for
financial reasons"
Seip said he was in support of the
discussion with user groups going
forward and hopes that, to some
degree, this practice was already
being used.
Newson said the current policy
does have provisions for taking the
ice out as soon as mid-March if there
isn't hockey scheduled, but going
beyond that may be difficult.
"We could look at that policy and
look at an earlier date in March," she
said. "We have to have discussions
with the different groups though. If
there is a team in the [Ontario Minor
Hockey Association (OMHA)]
playdowns, they will want to play in
their own town which could be
challenging if it's that centre's turn
to have the ice out early."
Seip drew reference to a decision
council made earlier this month that
tasked three user groups with filling
enough ice time to cover the cost of
opening the ice pad in Wingham a
week early. He said the same stance
needs to be taken at the end of the
season.
He did say, however, that he
understands this will be a
contentious issue. He acknowledged
that taking a centre's ice out early
when a local team has aspirations for
an OMHA championship would be
an unwelcome move.
"That is death if you even talk
about having a hometown not play in
their own area," he said. "However,
we do have to be fiscally
responsible."
Council took no immediate action
related to Newson's presentation.
