Final budget coming on April 3

process, however, noting that most
committees have yet to approve their
budgets, meaning that further
pressures could present themselves
in the coming weeks.
She said that with a six per cent
increase to the levy already being
proposed, committees and depart-
ments have been instructed not to
ask for increases to their budgets, as
that will put additional pressures on
the municipality.
One exception to this principle,
however, has been the municipality's
recreation centres, which have all
been allotted a four per cent increase
to their budgets over the previous
year. Not only have community
centres proven to be challenged by
rising hydro costs in recent years,
but Michiels said that Bill 148 will
impact these departments the
hardest.
"The impacts of Bill 148 are more
significant in our recreation centres
and day care as a number of part-
time staff and students are utilized in
these facilities," Michiels said in her
report to council. "These facilities
are also impacted by the overall grid
increase as wages are a higher
percentage of these budgets than
other municipal departments"
Michiels will present council with
her first draft of the budget at
council's next meeting, which is set
for Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. at the
municipal office in Seaforth.
75 years (and counting)
Huron East Council celebrated a collective 75 years of experience in the world of municipal
politics last week, honouring three councillors for serving for 25 years each. Councillors Alvin
McLellan and Larry McGrath and the late Bill Siemon were all honoured for their long-time
commitment to Huron East with a special display in council chambers in Seaforth. From left:
