When it comes to soccer, netminders may be the players who have the most shots bounce off
them but that doesn't mean they're the only ones. Sometimes you're just in the wrong place at
the wrong time, like Maitland River Elementary School student Hayden Jamieson, left, thought
he was during recess last week. Jamieson was enjoying a game of soccer at recess with fellow
students Adler Shaw, centre, and Preston Robinson, right. (Denny Scott photo)
Complex ice could go in early
By Denny Scott
The Citizen
Provided three user groups
commit to a total of 55 hours of ice
time in the last week of August, the
ice pad at the North Huron Wescast
Complex in Wingham will be going
in a week earlier this year than it has
in the past.
Council approved tenatively
putting the ice pad in early at its Feb.
5 meeting.
North Huron had a request from a
user group late last year to put the
ice in for the 2018-2019 season a
week early, however Director of
Recreation and Facilities Pat
Newson explained it would be cost
prohibitive to do so.
She explained that, without full
utilization of the ice, it would cost a
significant amount of money to run
the equipment necessary to maintain
the ice for that extra week.
Three user groups, the Wingham
Ironmen, the Saugeen Maitland
Hockey Association and Hayter
Hockey have agreed to book
sufficient ice to generate the $7,300
needed to tentatively run the arena
equipment for the extra time.

Newson explained the three
groups would be required to pre -pay
for the ice by June 1, 2018 and
cancellations would not result in a
refund. She said the township had
run into problems with cancellations
of similar arrangements in the past
and would not offer refunds.
The groups only needed to book
55 hours of ice and the rest will be
made available to other groups after
the June 1 deadline.
Provided the three groups don't
cancel any ice before the June 1
deadline, the ice in the arena will be
put in for Aug. 27 instead of Sept. 4.

Mackenzie Wightman played
interlude music at the piano as
Roger, Debbie and Jenna Hopper
greeted worshippers and handed out
the bulletins at Knox United Church
on Sunday, Feb. 11.
Brian Hymers welcomed the
congregation on Transfiguration
Sunday and lit the Christ candle.
He also lit a candle in loving
memory of Leroy Rintoul, who had
passed away.
Happy birthday was sung to
Marlene Procter, Debbie Hopper and
Ann Clark.
The call to worship was read
responsively and the Peace of Christ
was shared with one another. After
the choir anthem the congregation
sang, "At the Name of Jesus"
followed by children's time.
The congregation listened to the
Holy Scriptures as Ken and
Lila Procter read from Kings 2: 1-
12, Corinthians 4: 3-6 and Mark 9:
2-9
Jesus took Peter, James and John
up a high mountain. They noticed a
change come over Jesus and his
clothes became shiny white. A cloud
appeared and covered them with a
shadow and a voice came from the
cloud. They didn't see anyone, only
Jesus was with them. Jesus told
them not to tell anyone what they
had seen, until the Son of Man has

risen from death. Transfiguration
means to alter or make different.
After the hymn of response,
"Fairest Lord Jesus" was sung.
Muriel Coultes reported on the
minute for missions. Larry Harper
and Ken Procter took up the offering
which was dedicated and "In
Gratitude and Humble Trust" was
sung.
The Lord's Prayer was spoken, the
closing hymn, "We Have Come at
Christ's Own Bidding" and "May
the God of Hope Go with Us" was
sung. This concluded the morning
worship service.
The Knox United Official Board
meeting is scheduled for Feb. 21 at
7:30 p.m. in the church basement. If
there are any items to be added to
the agenda please call Roger Hopper
