It was Hockey Night in Seaforth on Saturday night as the Huron East Centenaires hosted
Shelburne at the Seaforth and District Community Centre. The day, however, began much
earlier with the retiring of jerseys for Rebecca Kipfer-Pryce and Tanner Steffler, both former
Seaforth hockey players who passed away last year. All of the proceeds from Saturday,
including the Centenaires' share of the 50/50 draw were split evenly between causes
associated with the two young people. On the ice, the Centenaires came up just short, losing
to Shelburne by a score of 6-5 in overtime. (Shawn Lou

Cummings has high
hopes in third term
as Society president
By Shawn Loughlin
The Citizen
Dorothy Cummings is the new
president of the Brussels
Agricultural Society after two years
under Matt Cardiff, the youngest
president in the organization's
history.
Cummings was formally installed
into the position at the society's
annual meeting on Friday night at
the Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre.
This is Cummings' third term as
the society's president and she hopes
to do things a little differently this
time around.
Cummings wants the society to
change with the times and
incorporate various forms of social
media into the organization's
monthly activities. She asked former
president Nicole Noble to take that
on.
In addition, the society is planning
some renovation and expansion to its
structures at the community centre
grounds and she asked former
president Mery Bauer to take the
lead on that project, which he did.
She said she hopes to create a real
buzz around this year's fair, which is
themed "Tractors and Tail Gates", in
hopes that Brussels residents will
return to the fair.
In the years leading up to hosting
the Brussels Fall Fair at the
International Plowing Match (IPM)
in Walton last year, some members
of the society had worried that after
making such a big splash it might be
difficult to re-establish the fair back
in Brussels. Cummings wants to
avoid that and ensure that people
return to the fair and that it continues
to be as successful as it was before
2017.
She hoped that all members of the
society would put their all into
hosting the fair again this year, just
as they did last year when the fair
was transported to the IPM.
In keeping with the fair's theme,
she hopes to talk to some area
farmers and collectors to bring some
antique tractors to the fair. In
addition, she hopes to have some
antique pickup trucks on display as
well.
The fair is scheduled to take place
Sept. 18-19 in Brussels.
