At the Branch
Branch hosts events
every week night
By Jo -Ann McDonald
It was another good week at the
Brussels Legion Branch. The Lions
Club held its meeting there on
Monday evening with
approximately 30 members and
guests present. They enjoyed a ham
and scalloped potato dinner before
the meeting. Helping at the Branch
were Jo -Ann McDonald, Linda
Bird, Judy Lee and Judy Emmrich.
Tuesday evening was the general
meeting of the Branch. There were
10 Comrades present. Committee
reports were heard and decisions
were made concerning wages. A full
canteen report on prices and
changes will be presented at the next
meeting. There are at least eight
members who have not renewed and
their intentions are not known at this
time. The Legion welcomes new
members anytime, so come out and
join the largest service organization
in Canada.
More members have joined the
entertainment committee, so look
for more exciting events being
planned for the Branch. There is a
trivia night and a silent auction
being planned now and two more
wing nights with entertainment. Are
there events you folks of Brussels
would like to see at the Brussels
Legion? Call and talk to Sandra and
voice your ideas or your concerns, if
you have any about the Legion.
There was no Cadet meeting at
the Branch as they were away
enjoying sports night. Cadets is
every Tuesday evenings from 7-9
p.m. for youth ages 12-18. You can
join anytime, so if interested, drop
in on a Tuesday evening. The Cadets
are collecting pop cans as an
ongoing fundraiser for their group.
The Branch still accepts pop tabs for
the wheelchair program.
Wednesday evening the
Functional Fitness class meets at 7
p.m. with leader Jess Jorritsma. You
can contact her about joining the
class at 519-531-0398.
Thursday evening is blind mixed
darts for the young, the mature, the
amateur and the professional.
Names are pulled from a hat to
make the teams. All are welcome.
Members of the community are
encouraged to come out and give it
a try. Darts are available for use.
This past Thursday night, there were
12 darters taking aim and they had
the help of Lawrence Machan to
keep track of the scoring. The first
place team was Sharon Robbins and
Gord Jacklin; second, Marlene
Rutledge and Sandra Josling
Brown; high shots, Krysta Bujold,
105 and Sandra, 112. Darts begin at
8 p.m.
Saturday evening was the
gathering of the Brussels Fire
Department and their spouses for a
belated Christmas party. There were
31 in attendance to enjoy the dinner
provided by the Branch ladies.
Helping at the Branch were Judy
Lee, Mabel Glanville and Jo -Ann
McDonald. Following the dinner,
the group held presentations,
awards, and then the games began.
Lots of laughs and fun.
