At the Branch
Burns night marked by Legion

sunny south travellers. The eight
darters played single darts and the
winners were: first, John
Stadelmann; second, Sandra Josling
Brown; high, John, 130; Sandra, 133

The weekend was busy for the
Branch and its members. Saturday

to Mitchell Legion to compete in
Zone Euchre. Team 1 was Comrades
Eric Ross, Barry O'Krafta, Bob
Richardson and Lloyd Glanville.
Team 2 was Rick and Jo -Ann
McDonald, Norm Dobson and Daisy

The "Kick up your Plaid" wings

Burns was held Saturday night.
There was a good crowd on hand to
enjoy the food, the music of Lost
Highway, karaoke and draws.
Comrades helping out for the
evening included Jim Brown, Jamie
Mitchell, Randy White, Sandra
Josling Brown and Nanci
Ducharme. There was a good crowd
and many enjoyed singing birthday

Sunday afternoon was the
celebration party for Comrade

family decorated the downstairs
lounge and welcomed many family
and friends to drop in and wish
Dianne a happy birthday. They
enjoyed cake and coffee and a social
time for a couple of hours, Happy
birthday Dianne!
Sunday evening was the first
dance of 2018 for the Branch. There

Working on her birthday
The Brussels Legion hosted its 'Kick Up Your Plaid' event on
Saturday, featuring wings, fries and Scottish attire and
paraphernalia. The event was held in honour of Robbie
Burns, Scottish poet, whose birthday of Jan. 25 is
celebrated around the world. Above, Joan Smith, who
celebrated her 50th birthday earlier this week, had the
honour of selecting the first winner for one of the meat
draws throughout the evening. Legion president Jamie
Mitchell is shown in his Scottish finest holding the tickets.

On Saturday, Feb. 10, the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Recreation Board is hosting a
special Yuk Yuk's night at the arena
to help raise money for needed
improvements.
The stand-up comedy night takes
the place of the board's popular
ladies night, which had proven to be
a successful fundraiser in recent
years. The Valentine's Dinner and
Show begins at 5:45 p.m.
with a social time, followed by
dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the show at
8 p.m.
Tickets are $40 each and
organizers are encouraging those
interested to buy their tickets by the
end of the month.
Nicole Noble, Chair of the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Recreation Board, said that the Yuk
Yuk's night is an attempt by the
board to switch things up a bit and
change direction from the ladies
night. That's not to say, however,
that they won't return to the popular
format one day, they just decided to
take a year off.
Trish Barbour will be catering the
meal, which will include roast beef,
stuffed chicken breast, oven -roasted
potatoes, vegetables, salads and
dessert.
For more information or for
tickets, call the Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre at 519-
887-6621 or Nicole Noble at 519-
531-0484 or e-mail community
centre staff at bmgcc@ezlink.ca.
Once the Valentine's dinner is in
the history books, the board's next
event will be a painting for kids day
on March 14. Children aged 5-7 will
be invited to the community centre
between 10-11:30 a.m. and then
those from 8-12 will be from
1:30-3 p.m.
The day will cost $25 per child.
Supplies are included and each child
will create a painting they can take
home.

wings and fries. (Denny Scott photo)
