World Curling Tour Mixed Doubles bonspiel, with some new hardware as they took first place
in the competition. The duo were undefeated both in the round robin and championship play.
The Cottrills now look towards the provincial and national championships later this year. (Photo

FDNH to take on OPP
Members of the Fire Department
of North Huron (FDNH) will be
lacing up their skates to take on
Huron Ontario Provincial Police
(OPP) officers in a special
fundraising hockey game in March.
The game, scheduled for March
24 from 2-4 p.m. at the Blyth and
District Community Centre, will see
a team of firefighters take on their
OPP counterparts to raise money for
Victim Services Huron County. A
silent auction will also be held that
night.
Tickets cost $5 and can be picked
up at the Victim Services office at
the Seaforth and District
Community Centre, calling 519-
600-4108 or through members of the
FDNH or Huron OPP detachment.
Bonspiel fundraiser
seeks volunteers, help
This year's Ladies Curling
Bonspiel at the Wingham Curling
Club will benefit Tealpower and the
Wingham and District Hospital's
oncology unit and organizers are
looking for help.
The event, which has been
expanded this year to include three
draws and a full dinner catered by
Blyth's Part II Bistro, is sold out as
far as draw and dinner tickets, but
they are looking for donations for
both charities, the silent auction or
raffle prizes.
This year's event is being held in
memory of Ange Chester, an avid
curler and member of the club's
board, who died last year, losing her
battle with cancer at the age of 33.
The bonspiel is set for Feb. 24 and
will include three draws of curling
for teams of four, a dinner, silent
auction and raffles.
Tealpower is a non-profit
organization that raises money to
battle cervical cancer. It was
inspired by Alison Salinas, who was
diagnosed with cervical cancer in
2013 at the age of 32. She coined the
term "Tealpower" as teal is the
colour that represents National
Cervical Health Awareness Month in
the United States, which is January.
The Wingham Hospital has been
raising money through its Our
Hospital Our Future campaign now
for over a year. It has met its goal,
but is continuing to raise money
throughout the community for its
ongoing work in Huron County.
Organizers are looking for
individuals or businesses to step
forward and make donations to the
event or to donate items either to the
silent auction or for raffles. Those
who wish to help out can call
organizer Jen Elston at 519-357-
1186 or the club at 519-357-2179.

event, find it on Facebook.
