The Blyth Standard, 1930-06-19, Page 8The End of Mask Lamb Evil. l
Six or seven years ago it was agreed by
lamb buyers that the buck Iamb must die -
appear from the commercial lamb markets
Its meat affected the Iamb market unfav
orably and decreased the general popular-
ity of lamb as a food. F'urthremore, there
was no reason from the production stand
paint why buck lambs should be tolerated
'Therefore. to give effect to the educa-
tional work that had been done over a
number of years, lamb buyers adopted a
System of price -cuts on buck Iambs. These
have been successful in greatly reducing
the numbers of this poor class rf lamb
c imiog to market, have resulted in im
proving the demand for lamb by the con-
suming pubic and helped to maintain
wrong prices for live lambs.
But, as always, some producers have
persisted in neglecting to castrate their
male lambs at the proper time and this
neglect has resulted in a lot of poor quali•
ty iambs being rushed on to the market
immediately before the dates that the
price•culs on bucks became effective.
To.everome this, the dates at which the
fie cuts begin have been advanced and
Ville uniform throughout Canada.
• Effective on June 30th the price of all
buck lambs of this year's lamb crop at all
markets will be cut 2 cents per pound, and
effective on September 29, the cut will be
increased to 3 cents per lb.
1'he objective is to have all mate lambs
fur market castrated so that no producer
strap suffer loss and to maintain and in-
crease the demand for lamb meat thus
la Aping to support lamb markets in as
strong a position os possible,

IN MEMORIAM
McMILLAN-In ever loving memory of
Donald, who left us June 2nd, 1929.
I cannot say, and I will not say
That he is dead. He is just away?
With a cheery smile and a wave of the
hand
IIe has wandered into an unknown land.
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be, since he lines there
And you -oh you, who the wildest yearn
For the old-time step and the glad return
Think of him faring on, as dear
In the of Then, as the love of here.
Think of him still as the same I say,
He is not dead -he is just away,
Sadly missed by Father, Mother and
Marion.
