THE COUNCIL ADJOURNM). .
The county council, met on Tuesday'
and adjourned yesterday afternoon to
allow the members to return to their
It sines and vote on the reprendum.
We understand all,. or most of thein,
availed themselves of the opportunity
of using their franchise. t.
Tt has been reported that several of
the present members • wouldnot seek
re-election, but it • now looks as if
Mr, Holt alone will step down and
out. It ie quite possible that this
popular IC. C. will shortly be given a
jueg ship. TVs s.ppointmetit will
meet with public approyal.
There has lately beensome talk of
Mr. This. E. Hayes retiring front the
council with this year, but his friends
are so strongly insisting upon hint re-
maining that he tan hardly say 116.
Not one of the present members would
be so much missed as the genial and
witty " Tommy" Hayes,
The wise ones ate already discussing
the probabilities of the werdenship
for 19e3. According to agrettnent the
offiCe is given to a Tory one year and
to a Grit the tei•tt and the former
now holding it, the choice will likely
lie between Herr of Ileussefs, Miller of
Wenereter and MeLeett of Tuckersinith,
so it will be et question Tor a party
canmS ratinlr than the council to
&tide.

Tuesday the company refuses to hand-
le cattle to be shipped through to ,
St. John, owing. to; the embargo, a -
.which prevents the company carrying
the cattle over Apt short section of
•its road which rues through the
state of Maine. Before elie issuing of

ca.tele intended• for St. John would •
be carried as far east' as, St, Rosalie
