• LICENSE COMMISSIONER.—Sev-
eral persons are mentioned as probable
successors to the late Samuel Sloane,
on the board of License Commissioners
for the West Riding, but it is not like-
ly that any appointment will be made
for some time, as there is practically
nothing to do until the granting of
licenses comes up next spring. At any
rate two members can act when nec-
essary, • ,
• GONE HOME.—It is with deep sym-
pathy for Mr and Mrs Stewart Sey-
mour that we chrooicle the death 4.1
their infant son, on Sunday afternoon
last. The little one, which is their first
child, was only brought live the world
on Saturday evening, to gladden the
hearts of in% parents, but it was not
destined to remain with them long,
the doctor making them aware of the
fact ; and it passed away after a brief
life of 12 hours.
BOUGHT A FOUNTAIN. -- Mc-
Lennan's confectionary has installed a.
beautiful soda water fountain in the
centre of-tbeir store, which igen attrac-
tive as well as usejul piece Of store
furnishings. It is about six feet high,
and the top.part, consisting of a, middy
at the belin, is enclosed in a glass ease,
with au electric /ight—projectreg from
each side. Though not quite the sea-
son; to make a thing of that kind pay
foe itaelf, yet it will prove a labor sav-
ing devicefor them

train last Monday night in their spe-
cial car, and station agent A. O. Patti --
son had them. over viewing the sight
of the proposed granolithic sidewalk

but of all sidewalks to be laid, we

A QUIET WEDDING.—There was
celebrated at high neon on Tuesday the
marriage of Mr 'Nelson Ball, a pop-
ular and well known yeternary sur-
geon, to Miss Nellie Dowzer, an es-
teemed poing lady of town. ' The
ceremony was performed by the Rey
Dr Stewart in the presence of only the
immediate relatives, and after a light
luncheon the happy couple left. by the
255 train for Buffalo, midst a shower
of rice. On their return they will take
up housekeeping in the residence lately
occupied by J. E. Blacken, the Doctor
haying bad it renovated and furnished
nicely throughout. We extend con-
gratulations to Mr and Mrs Hall, and
hope that unalloyed happiness may be
theirs:hi wedded life.
