the home.of,his4daughterr. Mrs...El-
liott, wife of Rey J on Elliott, of Nairn,
there passed atvay quietly one of Bay -
field's oldest residents, in the pension of
Mr Jahn ESson, at 81 years of age.
About two years ago the illness, to
Which he finally succumbed,' made its
appearance, which seemed to be an af-
fection of the nerve centres of the
brain. His end came very quietly, be-
ing hastened by a stroke of paraiysie.
He was a native of the Orkney Islands
and came to Canada fifty years ago,
buthats yieited his native land several
tinges. During the .seventies and
eightiee, probably no man in
Huron Was , more widely known
than he. Of good business. habits he
was for Many years a prominent figure
in business and Municipal life. For 4
number of years be was clerk of Stan-
ley! and later !Tete of Bayfield, and in.
politics was an ardent Liberal., About
ten years age his eyesight failed him,
and later he became much enfeebed by
repeated attacks of la grippe, which
rendered him incapable of doing much
fattelnese.

DisaTIL-After a protracted illness,
caused by censer, Wm. Laictlaw, one
of the pioneers of the township, passed
away on Monday morning. Deceased
had suffered most acutely from his ail-
ment, but bore it with Christian resig-
nation. A man of strong individuality,
eterluag character, and. gOod qualities,
he was held in the highest poesible es-
teem, a fact clearly shown by the large
numberh followed his remains to
their resting plans in Maitland Bank
Cemetery on "Wednesday. Re was a
staunch Lineral and zealous Pt•esbyter-

of his children being residents in the
