sister of Rev. 3. Greene of town, was
killed in a, runaway accident a couple
of months ago. Mr. Greene was with
Mr. McLeod when the final summons
came and remains until after the fun-

The beautiful drama, The Temple .of
Fame, will be given in, the town hall
to-uaorrow evening.. The ladies who
will take part, they number nearly fifty,
Ihave been rehearsing for several weeks
and will present tbe drama in such a
Meaner as to both please and edify,
The entertainment will be worthy of a
large audience; See it and be satisfied.
Baseball Matches. •

. Monday peat being. Labor Day the
baseball club has ,arranged for two
matches to he played in the pork in
the afternoon. The first will be Goder-
ich vs. Clinton and the other Elyth is.
Clinton. • Our boys will endeavor to
win both and a goodly attendance of
citizens will encourage and help thetn.
These games will provide .an after-
noon's good sport.
Harvest Thanksgiving Service.
It is expected that the annual harvest
thanksgiving service in 'connection
with St Paul's church yvill be held on
Sunday, the: alith of September. The
Rev. T. C. Farthing M. A., one of the
most eloquent. preachers of the Angli-
can church, has accepted an invitation,
to be present on that occasion andto
preach .morning and evening. Mr,

The Hensall Observer rises to remark
that what is known as the electric ra-
dial railway would, if built, be in the
hands of the receiver in six months.
Rev. W. G. Howson will continue,
next Sunday morning his consideration
of • "that extract from an old love
letter." His subject at 7 p, m. will •be
"The building of a new house."
• A few of the ladies of St.Paula
church gave an At Home to the
children of the 5. S. from 4 to 7 o'clock
yesterday afternoon . It was a pleasant
affair and very much enjoyed by all
present.

son of Mrs. Turnbull of Clinton. is bus-

The Grand Trunk Railway will issue
tickets to the Pan-American, to go via
Toronto, en August 29th andSept. 2nd
and Ith for.$4.75. In this way passen-
gers can visit both the Pan -Canadian
and the Pan-American on. the one trip.
Mr. Andrew Taylor, who was rim
over by a Grand Trunk train a fete
months ago and had both feet. taken
off, now looks OS cheerful; As ever. Tie
takes the accideut philosophically, has
ordered artificial limbs and in a few
weeks may be able to, move about
town. He is longing:for that day.
Turkey Red Wheat. '
Fair Bros. raised a quantity of Tur-
key Red wheat which, on being clean-
ed up, tested platy four pounds to the
bushel. They are so well pleased with
the Turkey Rea that they are paYina
fng sixty eight 'cents a bushel for it.
A number of the farmers sowed this
wheat but they did not like the looks
of it when maturing-. Have they

Their Pirst Quarter.
While out canvassing on Monday
Mr. A. A.Schrenk stopped at a certain
place on the 10th concession.of Goder-

Death of Mrs. VVilliarn Gibbings.
After an illness of a' year or more
Mrs Wulixani Gibbings passed into
eternal rest on Tuesday morning, aged
only fifty two years. The deceased .
was a daughter of Mrs. S. Holmes, who
died but a few short weeks •ago, and
was held in high regard by her many
associates svho sympathise with the
bereaved husband and family. The
funeral will take place this afternoon
to Clinton cemetery.
The Topic •Was Daily Prayer.
A very interesting meeting of the,
Rattenbury street League was held
oti Monday evening last.. The topic
was "Daily Prayer" and the meeting
in charge of the prayer -meeting com-
mittee, A most excellent paper was
read by Miss Maggie Davis, while a
recitation by Miss Flora Cunningham
entitled "Prayer" and a Solo "Guard
while 1 sleep" by Mrs. IL E. Rorke
were Very much enjayed by all present.
Their Only Boy.
Death entered the home of Mr. and
Mrs.Wes. Moore yeateeday and carried
away their only son, a bright little
fellow . of soine eight months. The
hearts of the parents are sore because
of their loss but they are solaced some-
what by the sincere sympathy of
friends. Kind worde can never die
but especially are they appreciated
when one that is tiear and dear is

A Bright Trio.
Mr.Syd.Jackson of Montreal is enjoy-
ing part of his vacation at his home
here. On his way be took in the Pan -
Am. and other sights. Mr, Jackson's
very many friends in Clintot are
pleased to see him looking so well and
to learn that prosperity has attended
him in the metropolis on the St. Law-
rence. Clinton has three of its bright
young men in Montreal in the wears
of Ike Read, Syd. Jackson and Ern.

An Accident.
While Mrs. Andrew Ginn was stand-
ing upon a bench engaged in training
a running plant last evening, the
beneh tipped and in falling Mrs. Ginn
Was so unfortunate as to sustain a
fracture ot both bones in the right
ankle. The injuries are of a painful
nature and will confine Mrs, Ginn to
the house for several weeks. Iler
good man had it,narrow escape down
town but an hour previously when, in
good naturedly trying to stop a
grocer's runaway horse, 'hewas
caught by one of the wheels and per.
formed a gymnastic feat which
he could not accomplish without
auch assistance nor could he be induced
to try.
Mr. a. A. Rorke Home Again.
Mr, Geo. A.. Rorke came home from
the West last Saturday feeling and
looking greatly benefitted by his trip,
While away. Mr- Rorke visited sever-
al points as far west as Calgary and
torth to Wetaskawiti but spent most
of hie time in Maple Creek. He speaks
*ell of our great West and thinks it is
a grand eottntry. He also. 'visite&
friends in Meaford, Owen sound and
gb, Forest on his way down, Mr.
Rorke has resulted his position in the
o. f. and will have fresh strength and
energy to deyote to it as &result of his
trip. Mrs. Rorke and the boys will

citizens took in the excursion to

Mr. Scott of Bier is visiting at his
son's residence, F. W. Scott's, for a
few dears.
On Saturday another interesting
game of baseball was played in the
park between Blyth and Belgrave
teams, the former nine being victot-
ious by two runs,
Mr. Ed. Floody, formerly of this
town but now of Detroit, is visiting
under the parental roof for a few days.
Mr. Isaac Brown is having a beauti-
fat verandah attached to his residence
On King street which will add greatly
to its appearance.
Miss Martha Moore has gone to
'Sarnia where she has secured a 'lathe -

Mrs: Nation of Item Mountains,
.Dakota, and Mrs, Belfry pf Montreal
are the guests of their father, Mr. W,
Shane, for a few days.

Lightning struck it chimney on the

Miss Nellie Medd, who is well known,

narrow escape•from death by lightning

ago. The bed she was sleeping in was

for some time but is all well again, -

are pleased to know that she is about

township on April 10th, 1842, and for
thirty two years has been it citizen of
Clinton. He was a member of the
town council for five terms. roe three

popular mine host of the Hotel Claren-
don.

Wedding Bells.—On Tuesday of tbis
week there gathered at the home of
M. Wm, bison, Kippen, relatives
frorn all parts, the attraction being the
marriage of Mr. Geo, Walker, travella
er for a Berlin wholesale house, to Miss
Eunice Ivison, the most esteenaed and
popular young lady of these parts.
The wedding took place at the family
residence 14 two o'clock la the after-
noon and was witnessed only by
immediate relatives of the contracting
parties. Atnong those present from a
distance were; Wm, Ivison, brother
of the bride, of New York; Rey. Barn-
by and wife of ifirigden, Rev. Walker
and wife, father and mother of the
groom, and many others, with Mame&
iate relatives who reside here, all
Making a fulacomplete and good look-
ing audience to witness the ceremony
that binds until death doth part. Revs,
Long, Barnby and Walker officiated.
While the happy groom and bride
with their assistants were beitig
ushered into the parlor where
the ceremonv was performed,

made man and wife. Shortly after-
wards the wedding dinner was served
