Mrs. Wm. Srnale and family left
Saturday for the Soo via Sarnia.
John Snrale (Dr.) was in Sarnia for a
few days this week.
Jas. Dunbar of the Oth con., Gode-
rich township, was home last week for
a few days.
Will. B. Hawkins left Monday for
London camp as Quarterwaster Ser-
geant for the regiment.
J. 13. Hawkius is home for a few
days at present.
The brickwork on the Foresters'
• hall will soon bedoneand they expect
to have it opened for july 1st.
Forest Home.
A number from this vicinity took in
the circus in Seaforth and report a
lively time.
Miss Annie Berry of Hay called on
friends here.
Mr. Thos. Workman was the guest
of a friend in Seaforth recently.
Mr. A. Reid and Mr. B. Blair of
Stanley called on friends in this neigh-
borhood.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Brownlee renew-
ed old friends in Goderich township
last week.
Miss Nellie Cooper of Kippen was
the guest of her sister, Mrs. A. Brown.
Mrs. A. Monteith of Kippen called
on her parents here.
The stonemasons are busy building a
foundation under Mr. C. Forsyth's
barn.
Mr. Wm. Broadfoot has got his new
barn completed.
The carpenters are busy enlarging
and rebuilding Mr. Henry Carter's
house which will be a big improvement
to his premises.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Little spent
Monday last with friends in Brucefield.

Mr. Mace Sterling of Goderich town-
ship and Miss Rutile were visiting
at the latter's parents and with other
friends on Saturday and Sunday.
Mrs. Sage of Walton is moving into
the house lately vacated by Mr. Ross.
We welcome Mrs. Sage to our village.
Mr.and Mrs. John Scarlett attended
the funeral of the latter's brother, Mr.
John Lovett, who died at Summerhill
last week.
Miss Maggie Scarlett paid a visit to a
friend in London Monday and returned
home on Wednesday.
Several from around here attended
the funeral of the late Mr. Best, who
died in Seaforth Friary. The remains
were interred in Burns' church ceme-
tary, Hullett, and the funeral was con-
ducted by the L. O.L. of which deceas-
ed was a member. he being the oldest
Orangeman that belonged to Londes-
boro Lodge. In spite of the rain the
funeral was largely attended.
Mrs. G. Hamilton is visiting at the
home of her mother in Lucan this week.
East Wawanosh Connell.
The council met in the council room
on May 23rd as a.court of revision and
appeal. Sampson Carter, SA Ni} lot 31,
con. 3, had his assessment reduced
$200. Mr. Lockhart, Iot29, con. 2, and
Win. Grigg, lut 41. con 8, each .had. a
dog struck off.
Petition of several ratepayers of
East Wawanosh and Morris in the vic
inity of Belgrave agitating for the for
mation of a new union school section
there, received, and asking the council
to appoint anarbitrator in this case.
Wtn. Coats of Clinton was appointed
to act in that eapac'ty on behalf of the
township of East Wawanosh. •

and Hullett was laid before the council
notifying them that they .protested
against the action of the trustees of
U. S. S. No. 11, East. Wawanosh and.
Hallett, in going on with the building.
of a schoolhouse, etc., in said school
section on account, as the. petitioners
affirmed, of several irregularities con-
nected

as conducted by the trustees, in the
opinion of the • petitioners, • illegal and
so far null and void.—Filed. The reeve
was instructed to get some legal':ad-
vice first before taking any action

the Ontario .Agricultural College on
the work of the past year appear the

Ketchon took honors in nine subjects
Mrs. R. K. Miller and Mrs. David
Todd Sr. returned home on Saturday
evening after a week's • visit with
friends in Toronto.

vicinity and was at his old post during
Mrs. Miller's absence.
rhe Sacrament r.f the Lord's Supper
was observed in the . Presbyterian
church here on Sabbath morning last
and Rev. Mr. McLean of Blyth con-
ducted preparatory service on Friday
morning last. The pastor, Rey. Mr.
Whaley, preached very acceptably on
Sunday morning and. Rev ,VIr.
Thine in the evening. Rev. Mr. Mc-
Kay of Lucknow preaches on Tuesday
evening.
Just a9 church was .coming out •on
Sunday morning it was discovered that
Mr. David Todd's house was on fire
and although a large crowd of willing
workers gathered the house was com-
pletely burned owing to the pump
being on the verandah near the kitchen
where the fire originated but they
managed to save the greater part of
the most valuable contents.
Mr.Fr•ed. Bond visited his brother in
Kincardine on Saturday and Sunday

paid a flying visit to friends here last

LECTURE BY MISS HILL:
A mostpleasing entertainment was
given in the Middleton church last
Friday evening • when Miss Bill of.
Toronto gave a lecture on. Windsor
Castle. This was a rare treat to those
who hadthe good fortune to attend.
A laige. number from Clinton were
present and all were enthusiastic in
their praise of bliss Hill's address ..
some averring. that . they had never
listened to an address more interesting
and instructive. Miss Hill is well
qualified: for entertaining an audience
having crossed the Atlantic 27 times,
madetour throughout Europe 9 tunes,
visited many large cities, such as Lon -
on Edinburgh,. Paris, Berlin, Vienna
Naples. Rome, Florence, Venice etc.,
etc., met many well known prominent
people and her easy, graceful, pleasing
manner, freedom from .affectation or
tricks of the platform bespeak for her
on all occasions a most attentive aud-
ience.
