Change Weed Act Regulations
The Hon, J. S. Martin has announced
changes in the regulation of the Ontario
Weed Act to be effective this year.
Road superintendents or foremen will
not be eligible for appointment as weed
inspectors. The reason for this regulat-
ion is that the weed inspector must report
on the enforcement of the Act with re-
spect to roads.
To simplify the enforcement of the Act
the following less important weeds in On-
tario have been removed from the nox•
isms list:
Cinquefoils (potentilla sp.), field pep-
pergrass (lepidium campestre). stinckseed
(lappula echinata), Russian thistle (salsa -
la kali) wild barley (hordeum jabatum).
Municipal councils are encouraged to
appoint men capable of giving leadership
in an educational way. Weed problems
are not simple and the best men available
are essential if progress is to be made, It
is not sullich nt for a council to appoint
a man and instruct him to wait for com-
plaints before taking action,
