The modern trend to specialization on
the Vim is clearly exemplified in Ontario,
where snadditlon°to productiotiltflterple
crops. farm land is being devoted to
the groiwng of apples and tobacco on a
large scale, the ranching of foxes and mink
breeding of large flocks of high-class poul-
try and turkeys. and even to muskrat
ranching. Many farms are devoted ex•
elusively to one or other of these various
specialized lines. The financial attract-
iveness of this plan of farming has been
definitely established.
The law in this country is so strict that
a man serving five years for chicken steal-
ing could not be allowed to return to his
home at Hamilton to see his dying father,
who has since passed away. It is to be
hoped our judiciatry will think of this if
some of our buck t shop manipulat< <s are
found guilty of defrauding old people,
women, and others of their hard-earned
money.
Sometimes we are asked by people why
we do not publish the names of their vis-
itors, while we publish the names of those
visiting other homes. The only reason is
because we do not know of these cases,
and we have not received any notice of
them. We would consider it a great fav-
or if all those who have visitors or who
have other items of local interest would
inform us either peasonaily or by a note
to the office. We are only too anxious 10
publiett these items that are of interest to
many.

The financial benefits accruing fr m
tourist traffic are admitted, Government
officials are endeavoring to establish some
more accurate method of establishing the
value to the country. The present plan
of averaging tourist expenditure at 810
per head per day is veriest guess work.
Many tourists do not spend that amount
in ten days and boast of the fact. The
system of counttng tourists is also to un-
dergo revision, it being shown that the
same party has appeared no fewer than
four times in the returns of four different
parties.
Supported by Provincial and Federal
governments a movement is gaining
strength to devise means of re-creating
the fast vanishing local industry in the
towns of Canada. A score of years ago,
particularly in the East, almost every
town had atleast one industry, a cannery
furniture factory, etc, which provided
considerable employment and usually a
market for local farm and garden produce

Last year's statistics concerning the live
stock industry in Canada showed that the
only branch which did not show a reduc-
tion in total numbers on Canadian farms
was sheep. The prairie provinces import-
ed some thousands of grade ewes to stock
weedy farms, thus giving an impetus to
the eastern 9reeders to supply the demand
for pure-bred stock, resulting in a healthy
market condition.
