Colonel William Dillon Otter, C.D.,
••••tivas born near Clinton, Ont., Decem-
ber 3, 1848, and joined the militia
1136.1. He served through the Fen-
ian Raid of 1866, including the bat-
tle of Ridgeway; went to England as
second in command of the Wimble-
don team in 1873; succeeded to the
command of the Queen's Own Rifles
in 1874; was commandant of the
Wimbledon team in 1888; was •made
commandant of the School of infan-
try, Toronto, December, 1888; com-
manded the Battleford column during
the Northwest Rebellion of 1885, end
was chosen to command the first
Canadian contingent to South Af-
rica in October, 1899.

Keyes, of the Babylon line, lost a fine
horse in a rather peculiar way. Mrs
Keyes and one of the boys went berry -
p eking and tied the horse, but when

C. Young, Huron road, that is probab-
ly the deepest dug and curbed 'well in
the township. He had to dig down 91

SALE -The farm and effects of the
late J. J. McLaughlin were sold by
auction on Thursday, a gored crowd
'being in attendance. The farm, • 50
acres, was sold to W. Hoge of this
township, for the BUM of $3,200. The
two children will make their homes
with Mr Scarlett and Mr • Tyner re-
spectively. It is, expected . that Mrs
Melletughlin, sr., will take up her resi-
dence with one of her daughters. '

private letter that Jas. A. .Baird, son
of the late Jas. Baird, sr', and grand-
son of Mrs Jas. Baird, who has been
studying at the College of Physicians
and Surgeons, of Edinburgh, Scotland,
has been successfulin obtaining the
L. R. C. P. and L. R (); S. (Eden) and
Mao the L. E'. P. &S (Glasgow), which
comprise* the Triple Qualification De!
gree at. the July mounainations recent-
ly held in Edinburgh. DI. Baird is
a graduate of McGill University. Med-

nearly 200 head of first-class stock.
IMPROVING.- O. Milis, of the Huron
road, is constructing an old barn into
a good new one. Some of these days
he will be taking a partner, and he's a
mighty decent young fellow and de-
serves a good one.
VOTERS e LIST. -The list for 1901 is
now published and from it we learn
that the aggregate number of persons
qualified to senor as jurors in Idullett
is 607. In part 1 there are 791, part II
129 and in part III, 71. The number

COUNCIL. -The Hullett -commit met
in Londesbero on July 17, members all
preserit. The chief business of the
meeting was to consider ways and
means of repairing and strengthening
the oil Watson bridge, con. 8 and 9,
which at present is not very safe to
carry heavy loads each as threshing
machines and engines, but it will be
attended to as soon as it is possible to
get the material. Complaint was
made by HenrY'Uooper the occupant
of lot 9, con. 3, that John P. Dale has
unlawfully dug a drain in a slanting
direction across the road _allowance,
con aand 3,taking (he water out of its
natural course cousin, it to overflow
and damage his lands and crops. The
clerk was instructed to notify Mr Dale
of said complaint and that Ibe town-
ship council Will hold him responsible
'for any danger or injary that may be
sustained by Mr Cooper or the town-
ship through this cause. The Reeve
and Treaseirer were authorized to bor-
row the sum of $1000 for current ex-
penditure until the taxes are due and
