An Aberdeenshire farmer writes to
The Aberdeen Free Press asking to
have the trade in Canadian store cat-
tle reopened. He say s that all the
stories about pleuro -pneumonia are
groundless, and that there is no ex-
cuse for excluding Canadian cattle.
Scotch farmers would prefer the free
admission of Canadian store cattle to a
reduction of 20 per cent. in their
r -Its: such is his belief. It is more in
pity than anger that we regard these

While a government may, to a cet
tain extent, he judged upon its geners
-al policy, the chief point considered by
the people is the one of finances. The
policy of the Ontario government has
been one of continuous progress, and
its aim has been to advance the inter-
ests of the Ftovince in the wisest and
most prudent manner ; but it has been
wore than I his. It has been an honest
administration. in the widest accepta-
tion of the term. During the time the
Liberals have been in power, tbe large
amount of about two hundred million
dollars have passed through their
bands, and their opponents have not
Leen able to place their finger upon one
solitary cent that has not been ac-
counted for. There have been no steal-
ings from the public chest. This is a
,..markable record. It, may be said
that a governniet t deserves no credit
for being honest, but we believe
it deserves very great credit in -

The death of Pittson C. Maddock,
formerly of Brussels, occurred at his
mother s residence, Guelph, on Sunday
evening. The deceased was it son of
the late E. H. Maddock, and for some
time past has resided in Toronto where
he was head of one of the departments
in the T. Eaton Co's, store. He was 32
years of age. He leaves a wife and
three children, twit, boys aud one girl,
the eldest 11..yeers and the, youngest 4
years of age. Ms Maddock is a daugh-
