Sunday at their respective homes here;
they will probably. have many oppor-
tunities of visiting home -this season as
the boat is to survey along our own
coast. Our store -keepers are about to
form a combine regarding early closing
for two or three evenings in the week
during the summer months; we think
this• a very wise step and should be
.adopted by all. The Sacrament of the
Lord's Supper will be dispensed in Si.
Andrew's Pvesbyterian church next
• Sabbath morning; preparatory service
for the same will beheld the preceeding
Friday. Chas. Whiddon, of Ripley,
spent a, few days with friends here this
week. Qeite a number picniced here

orth, for the summer.

sorry to hear ot the painful accident

While helping to anchor the Ste. Bay.
'field, the anchor -chain slipped.over and
bruised his leg badly. He is at present

grounds last Thursday evening proved
a grand success. A large number sat

A PIONEER'S DEMISE.-Deatb has
claimed one of the veryearliest settlers
of this neighborhood, in the person of
Mrs MeDougall, relict of the late John
McDougall, Who Paesed peacefully
away early on the morning of the 4th,
at the age of 76 years, Deceased was

her parents Moved to Goderich, and
subsermently to Goderich township,
settling on 10t 27, cut line. Her hus-
band predeeeatied her twine fifteen

strong constitution, which helped her

Mission Band, a most successful meet-
ing was held when the children gave
an excellent program of dialogues,

was interesting and well conducted.

as he suffers from injury to his spine'.

his friends here when it was learned
on Friday last that William Best
had dled in Sealikils of heart -troll e.
Mr Beet lived on the 10.1 con., near
the village, for a great many years,
but moved to Seaforth recently. He
bad been sick but a short time and his
deeth was a shock to many. He was
89 years of age, wd.S.a Methodist in re-
ligiortand a, Conservative in *politico,
and was :much esteemed by his many
friends. He leaves a wife,. five sons
three daughters; of the sons foto. are
in Manitoba; the daughters are Mew 'EL
Allen, of Haelock; &ire J. Allen and
Mrs Atkinson, both of Seaforth. The
funeral kook place from his late resid-
ence in Seaforth to Burn's church
eeinetery on Sunday last, Rev. Mr
Rased of Seaforth conducting the

armee. The Orange lodge,of Londes-
lacirb,of Which society he was a theinher
attended in a body.
Nome. -Mr McIntosh, our present
mail carrier, has secuted the contract
for another four years on the same
ronte with an increase in salary; the
nnanimoue opinion is that no better
man could be had tor the position, as
during the past four years he has
earned for hirneelf an envied reputation

-Isom Poison:D.-We are earry to
learn of the illness of Asa, the little
son of W. Males, of the Base Aine,
which at one time was very serious.
The little fellow had been setting off
fire crackers and in doing so had. his
hand injured, the effect being that
blood poisoning set in, extending
through his left artn, chest and left
leg. We are glad to know he is get-
ting better, the doctors having had a
difficult case to deal with.
