One of our worthy citizens met with
an accident one day last week. Mr.
Moorehourse, the gentleman coucerned,
was engaged splitting some wood for
the stove and when swinging his axe it
Caught on -the clothes line, coming
down with considerable force. The
blade struck him on the back of the
head inflicting a nasty wound which
had to have two or three stitches pnt
in it. It was a wonder that Alia
Moorehouse was not killed. • it is' bad
enough as it is and we hope to eee him
fully recovered in a few days. '
There is a movement on foot to get
up a concert in the near future for the
benefit a the Patriotic Fund of Can-

A. fortnight ago Mr. 8. Lawrence

man who was so well satiefied that a

The free library has been open for
• about a week, hutha already become
a populart, institution and is bound to
become more so when its advantages
are still better known. In its old
quarters it had 126 members ; under
the new regime it has already reached
that mark and will all probability
soon far exceed it The library is'
practically free as any citizen may
obtain for a nickel a ticket whieh will
entitle him or her to sixteen books.
Non residents Must pay thirty five
cents for a like privilege, The reading
room is airy, well lighted. and provided
with comfortable chairs. it. is really a
pleasant spot to drop in during the p,
to read the magazines and papers.
The ladies have °been a little timid
about patronizing it, but are now be-
ginning to do so. •The paper racks
and magazine stands are the ingenious
device of Librarian Bean, who, by the
way, has neen re -appointed. The read-
ing public are ender an obligation to
Barrister Brydone and Mr, W.E. Rand,
mathematical master at the collegiate
institute, for the interest they have
taken in the library during the past
two or three years. They certainly
hale devoted more time and energy
to advancing its welfrire than many
have any idea of.

toba, and son of our worthy citizen;
Mr. S. Davis, has sent us a, copy of the
Boissevain Recorder which contains a
write-up of the public' school of that
town a,nd from which we leaen that
three of the five members of the staff
are graduates of the schools of Clinton.
Mr. Davis, svho has a warm spot In his
heart, for his old home town, considers
this qiiite a feather in Clinton's cap,

Collegiate Institute and Clinton County

successful teaching obtained his profes-
sion second-clase certificate at Ottawa
Normal, Ile then taught In God,erich
until he decided to come out West. At
Regina he obtained his first-class pro-
fessional and after teaching a. short
time in Manitou reteived the appoint-
