Hitherto the law rerviredthat the net
and gross weight of salt peeked in bar.
rele should be • branded thereon. A
considerable tatiantity fff salt, however,
is sold in sacks, especially to farmers
rt track being supposed to contain 206
lbs. But the purchaser had no means
of knowing how much he was buying,
unless he bought by weight, and had
the article *melted. The anieridmept
of 11Ir Holmect requires that the gross
%%eight of salt sold in sacks, whether
favor ted Or otherwise, shall be branded
thereon, thus guaranteeing purchasers
it specified amount. It tnight be added
that this amendment to the law has
the full approval and sanction of salt

who are anxious to Protect the public
against possible frauds and it has been
framed with it view to causing import ed
