were worth at that time but this was
considered a big price. It was a losing
speculation, though, for the Yankee
who dropped $4,000 that season. Since
then Mr. Elliott has been almost con-
tinuously in the business and can name
the variety and guage the quality
much better than the experts from

Mr. John Layton went down to
Guelph on Monday last to take a spec-
ial course at the Diary School. He has
engaged with Mr. j, E. Creely of the
Seaforth Creamery for the' ensuing
Year and will resume his duties there
on his return.
Mr. Sohn White was seriously injur-
ed on Friday1 st whilst in the act of
feeding a three-year old colt which
has always been of a wild and untam-
able nature. The horse knocked him
down and tramping on him severely
injured his arta and forehead. By
some means Mr. White managed to
scramble out and get to the house
when medical aid was summoned, and
his injuries attended. to. At time of
writing he is doing as well as can be
expected and can consider himself well
off in escaping with ho bones broken.

Another of the pioneers of Tucker -
smith passed peacefully away on Wed-
needay of last week in • the person of
Jane Isndsbormigh, relict of the late'
Tarries Carnochan, at the ripe old age
of K. Deceased had been in failing
health folasome time. She was a net-
ive of Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland,
and came to Canada with her parents
and the rest of the family in 1834,sett.

smith. Early in life she was married to
her husband; who died about nine
years 'ago/ and four childaen blessed
their •union. One , died while Very
small and the. others a boy , and two
girls grew up but died of consumption
within a few years of each ether. Mrs.
Carnochan was a respected and kind
neighbor and beloved by all who knew
her. The funeral took place from her
late residence to the Egmondville cern-

ening. Everybody was delighted
with him as he gave two excellent dis-
courses, the morning being principally
missionary, Rev. T. Greene supplied
