WHEAT DOWNS, SR„ DEAD.—The spirit of Robert Downs, sr„ took its flight'oe Monday morning at the home of his son, Richard. Mr. Downs caste to Blyth before Xmas trent Clinton, but was never able to get up town and the poet four weeks has been in bed. Ile was born in Yorkshire, England, 75 yearn ago, He came to this country over fifty years ego and settled In Auburn where he worked at his trade of btackstldth and carriage maker for over 20 years. Ile was married twice, his second wife predeceased him four years ago, Mrs, Lawson, of Auburn, is the only living daugh- ter of the first marriage, while three sons survive from the seeond union, Wm„ Robert and Richard. ]ior the past five years he has resided in Clinton where he manufactured boiler cleaners, sawmill fixtures, etc A year ago last fall he con- tracted a heavy cold which after- wards turned to bronchitis, and in the spring be had a stroke of para- lysis from which he never regained his strength, He never sought after public life ; he was a Mason in fra- ternal circles and a Literal in poll - tics. The funeral took place yes- terday from the retidenco of his sou here to Bali's cemetery, Rev. S.
