'Whereln Is it Alorat Regarding 1rapid
Transit in That Otty.
CHAPT4,R I.
"Aliss Bloomingay, allow me to in-
troduce Mr. Hicksworthy."
The conditions were favorable to the
Porn Ing of an acquaintance, the parties
having me -t on a train that was mak-
ing a rather longer stop than usual a.t
a statlon on the way0to the city.
A shifting of the passengers later ou
gave young Mr. Hicksworthy an oppor-
tunity to take a seat by the side of
Miss Bloomingay, and tie availed him-
self of It.
CHAPTER 11.
"The length of time we, have known
each other, Miss Bloomingay, justifies
me, I hope, In asking you to tell me
your first name?"
"My name is Cora."
"'Thank you. Mine is Reginald."
CHAPTER 1I1.
"Cora, dear—" r
"Don't speak so loud, Reg—Mr.
Hicksworthy. Somebody will hear,
YOU."
Well, I'll whisper It. Cora, shall I
ever forget when I first met you—"
"Yet It ,has been so long!"
"Yes, it has been a long time now•,
but it has not seemed long to me, Dear
girl, I—"
The rest was spoken in too low a
whisper to be heard by any ear siva
that Intended.
CHAPTER IV.
He was no longer in the prime• of
young manhood. His hair was streak-
ed with gray and time had begun to
„furrow his cheek and brow, but in his
eye there still burned the fires of un-
quenchable devotion.
Time. likewise, had left its impress
on the fair face of the maiden, but
had not dimmed the lovelight that
shone through her soft brown eyes.
He spoke.
Cora, dearest, when shall we be
married?"'
It?"
'You are sure you will never regret
"I am sure."
"You care for me as when we first
met?"
"I do,"
"Then we will be married, Reginald,
as soon as we reach our destination,"
CHAPTER V.
Theirs was a deathless love.
It had stood the test of time.
It had passed triumphantly through
the ordeal of a journey on a milk train
from Seventy-second street to Dear-
born station.

"My boy," said he gravely, "I would

You're too young yet to think about
anything of that .bort. Wait until
you're thirty."
"But, father," exclaimed the young
man, his voice trembling with anxiety,
"when I'm thirty I may not want to
marry."
"No doubt of It! No doubt of 1t!"
said his father, with animation, back-

Young Harry Enpeck is still perplex-

upon one occasion was asked to assist
at a juvenlle party. Arriving at what
he thought was his destination, a
house in a row of others exactly allke,
the Canon made his ivay up to the

said ho to the demeatic, and thereupon
the reverend gentleman went down
upon all fours, ruflcd up his .white
hair, and crawled Into the room, ut-
tering the growls of an angry Polar
bear. What was his h rrov tnd amaze-
