BUFFERED FROM TWO BEV ERE ATTACKS OF RHFUMATISM—DOCTORS FEARED THF TROUBLE WAS GOINO TO HIS HEART—PINK PILLS CURED HIM AND HE GAVE AWAY HIS CRUTCHES. From the Tiverton Watchman. Anyone seeing the rohust health and active form of Air. Jack McDonogh, who 19 managing Mr. A. Gilch l'ist's harness business during his absence in Scotland, would be considerably sur- prised to learn that only two years ago he was a confirmed invalid and unable. to walk without the aid of crat.clips. But such is the case, and hearing of his retuarkable cure from the exer•nciAt- ing agony of lnfiaintna.ter•y rheuma. tism by the use of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills, a representative of the Watch- man called upon him to learn the par- ticulars. Mr. McDonogh was found working at the harness bench, as well and active as any young roan in the country, and in reply to a question about his cure said:—"Yes, mine was quite it remarkable case. Two years ago last spring, while :at home in Wingham, i was suddenly taken down with rheumatism, my feet and ankles swelling so that 1 could not even pu on an overshoe. I was in bed for three weeks cinder the, cars of as doctor, and had to use crutches for a loo time after that. The next spring the rheulnatt•isnl canoe back again, worse than ever, Attacking all tuy joints, but principally my ankles, knees, hips, elbows and wrists. The doctor gaye ore very little encouragement, and ,said he was afraid of it. going to lily heart and- killing Ine. I hacl read 4 great deal :about Dr. Williams' Pink Pills, .and the cures they lead wrought, and I determined to ti y them. At first I did not notice much change, but before I had taken a half dozen boxes I was so much improved that I hard given away my crutches and have never required their use since. I still took'the Pink Pili, for some time long er and I have never had touch of rheuu)Rtism since, and hope I never nlay. I can say that Pink Pills cured me of a bad case of rhellmaltisill and I cheeifullyrecomrnend there to other: suffering as I did. Dr. Williams' Pink Pills strike It( the root of the disease, driving It frau the system and restoring the patient to health and strength. In cases of paralysis, spinal troubles, locotnntol ataxia, sciatica, rheumatism, erysipe Ins, scrofulous troubles, etc., these. pill: are superior to all other treatment They are also it specific for the trouble: which make the lives of so roan) worsen a burden, anti speedily r estor( the rich glow of health to hale ane sallow cheeks. Y: Beware of imitAltions and sub stitutes alleged to be "just as good." It has been said, and it has not been authoritatively contradicted. that Lire solicitor -general of Canada, accoln- ppauie•d by a Roman Catholic lawyer of Pluglaud, has been sent by the govern went of Canada to Rome to hold cou- sultatiou with the Pope, on it matter affecting the government of this country. It iv difficult to believe that Mr. Laurier, the courageous chariapiori of freedom, who is alleged to have bearded the episcopal lion in his Que- bec den, should go to the foreign head of a church fur advice or help in the governing of C'antda. But the asser- tion has been wade that it is so, and the statement has not been deuied. In the case of Abbe Proulx it was denied 1 t to consult the Pope that he was sent t s t in the matter of the Manitoba school question ; but subsequent event show- ed that the denial was not warranted by the fact, Perhaps the Toronto Globe will give us it little light on this question i' Per- haps the Globe will undertake to deny that the solicitor -general has been sent by the government to consult the Pope and get his advice to help in the pro- per, governing of this country. Surely the Globe, which has so valiantly been whacking this Quebec bishops for their interference in matters appertaining to secular government, cannot stand idly by and see the Pope, at the request of the pi•euaier of Canada, giving his help and advice in matters which are en- tirely the business of the state. Sure- ly the Globe—after its tremendous battle with the Queb ea bishops—can- not consent to have this country virtu- ally governed by the Pope. British Sul>,jects Starving by The tllulion. India needs our help; the famine is upon her, and w. -cording to the estinia- tes of the highest authorities, the lives of six millions of people are in danger— a British population greater than that of all Canada. Both the Imperial and Indian Governments are moving in the the work of relief ; but this is a case that cannot be left to governments alone. It appeals to humanity gener- ally. The people of Britain have taken up the work of belief, and their ex- ample is being followed in other lands. Even the Russians are sending money and food to India. Canadians cannot turn a deaf ear to the cry of their fellow British subjects in the far East, and the means of send- ing effectual assistance has now been provided. A Relief Fund—the first to be started in Uanada—has been opened by the Montreal Star newspaper, and its publisher has headed the subset ip- tion list with it donation of five hun- dred dollars. Premier Laurier has written the Star a letter in which he expresses hearty approval of the relief movement, and he contributes a hand- some cheque to the fund. A joint- memorial signed by all the Protestant clergymen of Montreal has been received by the Star- expressing atpproval and support of the Relief Fund movement. Every snbscription to the Star's Fa- t, mine Fond, great or small, will be publicly acknowledged. €+ News Notes. On Saturday weer while John Haawk- sbaw, of Exeter, was stabling his horses, he met with an accedent which might have cost him his life. Mr. Hawk- show has since been confined to his room, having sustained severe bruises. The Post Office Department calls at- tention to the fact that the rules now permit the return to the senders direct, without being forwarded to the dead letter branch and without charge except as noted below, of letters which fail of delivery to the address, pro- vided they bear upon the faco or back the name and address of the sender. Request letters are returned at the end of the period specified, and letters with the name and address only at the end of two weeks. These letters are not subject to any fee upon re- turn, and the only charge made is in the case of letters originally insuffici- ently prepaid, where the original rat- ing is collected. Delay in returning, caused by the forwarding of undeliver- ed correspondence to the dead letter branch, as well as the payment of the returned letter fee, can be avoided if the public will take advantage of the regulation above set forth, and have their names and addresses printed upon all letters mailed.
