Tho Oxford County Council, at its ses-
sion on Saturday afternoon, eutherized the
appointment of a commi ,ion. %%how date

mission will prepare a report showing what
proportion of the purchase price each tnn-
nicipality shall pay after considering all
the circumstances therewith.
The London Daily Chronicle, in an edit-
orial on the tariff deh„te and the allegations
that the United States Senators have been

kering, which destroys all commercial shah-
ility, we should soon find ourselves in the
same predicament."
The earnings of both the hie Canadian
railways are now on the incre-eae, and there
is- a marked improvement in the movement
of freight, The Canadian Pacific main-
tains its remarkable record for grains, while
in the case of the Grand Trunk tne tideap-
pears to have turned. and in, place of de-
crease of a few weeks bash, the enmities
now shod- increases. On the Ontario Di-
vision of the Canadian Pacifjc the freight
traffic has been exceptionally heavy, and
'this is probably the case on the Owen
Sound section. In fact, the Canadian Pa-
cific has handled over its wharves at Owen
Round quite a hundred percent more freight
than was handled last year.
Judgment has been delivered in the fol-
lowing horse. syndicate cases. NO ich have
attracted a great deal of attention :—Janes
et al. v. Hendrie et al. Plaintiffs are farm-
ers residing in the Township of Norwich,
Lamhtoncounty, and breught aetiott against
Seo. Hendrie of St Mary's for dam ges for
misrepresenting a trotting stallion named
Gladstone,, and also against other members
of the syndicate to wind up the company.
Chief Justice Armour tried the case at
Stratford at the haat Assizes and reserved
judgment. His written decision arrived
here Monday. He grants the plaintiffs
judgment against Hendrie for $400 damages
and costs, and directs a reference to wind up
the association and sell the horse. Hoffman
v. Crerar et al was tried by Judge Falzon -
bridge on May 31, The action was brought
by Jacob Hoffman of Shalteslecre against
31 farmers in North and South Easthope to
recover wages as a groom to the German
coach horse, Amandus, owned by the de-
fendants. The plaintiff gets $116 and
County Court costs, the defendants aleo be-
ing ordered to indemnify the plaintiff
against certain outstanding accounts.
